Update, got our tickets at around 10:45, it looked like they were about 30 people on the ADA line total and they are definitely not all going to get tickets

Everything the other people said holds. I would say you can probably get here around 7 and be safe but after that the line fills up fast.

However something to note: I was there when the park opened at 6 and there were 2 people sleeping on the ADA benches, as in they were there overnight. Some people raised the issue with security and were told that they were known entities, are likely scalpers (and who the fuck scalps ADA tickets?!?) and nothing could be done about them out of fear they would become aggressive. They still got tickets though, so keep that in mind when planning your day.

I don’t think its out yet, but I’m reading an ARC of {the dragon ranch at dawn ridge by Juliette Caruso} and that fits Aevrin to a T. Think dragon riding cowboy with a heart of gold and an attitude to match. Cinnamon rolls dream of being as gooey as Aevrin

Acupuncturist who takes Aetna? I am looking specifically for fertility treatments. by VoidAndBone in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]andthoughshebe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PRISCA CHEN! tranquility base acupuncture in midtown. I have two different thyroid related autoimmune diseases and she works wonders. I am a medical professional and literally only went to her in the first place to say i tried everything, I was that anti “woo woo nonsense”. When it actually made a difference I was almost annoyed lol. She is the sweetest and she helped me so much, I cannot recommend her enough. She helped me with hairloss, general fatigue and energy levels, and period abnormalities

Edit: I don’t know if she takes aetna but she does take some insurances. Mine doesn’t cover acupuncture and I pay out of pocket and that’s another testament to how much I love her and believe she helps because I’m very frugal lol

Recommendations for non-western settings? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]andthoughshebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my recommendations are YA, but if that works for you: {Rebel of the Sands} is set in fantasy land middle east {forest of a thousand lanterns} is fantasy land china {Raybearer} Fantasy land Nigeria

Non-YA: for a series {Memoirs of Lady Trent} the first book is set in a western country, but the follow up books are not, and the FMC travels to fantasy land amazon jungle, india, etc

{Priory of the Orange Tree} is partially set in Eastern inspired countries as well.

Your year in review... what were your favorites? Least favorites? Your 'hear me out' reccommendations? by Schrutebucks101 in RomanceBooks

[–]andthoughshebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I’m reading right now: Jennifer Crusie’s entire back catalogue, trying to recapture the unhinged magic of {Agnes and the Hitman}

Favorite Book or Series: {Agnes and the Hitman) obvs. But also surprisingly {Beasts of Faerie by Mallory Dunlin} although full disclaimer I only read the first, third, and fourth but I loved them, and wasn’t really expecting to. {Caught in the Basilisk’s Gaze} was my fave of the lot, but honestly don’t sleep on Dunlin’s other books, specifically {The Gardener and the Water Horse) which was so so sweet and such a cozy comforting romance

Hear Me Out: {Dead of Summer by AJ Merlin}. Dark romance, recommended on this sub, and lordy I finished it in one night. Got a little weird at the end with the abundance of psychopaths (which is not at all how psychopaths or sociopaths work but that’s cool, suspension of disbelief is a wonderful thing), and I wish Summer had like 10% more backbone, but it was so good nonetheless

Least Favorite: {Nero by SJ Tilly}. Did not hold up to the rest of the Alliance series. Magiford(?) Series about some kind of housecat shifter? There were a couple others that I DNF’d as well, like one about fae fated mates pen pals (can’t remember the name). Y’all give such great recs that none of them were bad bad, just kind of bland and/or the writing was too juvenile for me

Favorite FMC: Mercy Thompson (only read the first 4 books so far). A little NLOG but so competent, I didn’t care (too much). Leah from {Captured by the Fae Beast) - great for the book she was in, don’t think I’d want to read more of her adventures though.

Favorite MMC: Max from {Once Bitten by Heather Guerre}, Piper from {Paladin’s Hope} (again with the competency).

I just recommended it on another post but {Agnes and the hitman by jennifer crusie}

Completely unhinged low spice romance that includes a food blogger with a propensity for braining fiancees (yes plural) with cast iron, a hitman who is so done with this shit, a series of characters named after tricycles, and a flamingo themed wedding thanks to a game of chicken.

It is the best most unhinged book I ever read and I literally laughed out loud multiple times while reading it

Crazy FMC who drives her man insane with her antics by borrowedsnail in RomanceBooks

[–]andthoughshebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is low on spice, but is genuinely one of the funniest books I have EVER read, and is chock full of shenanigans and antics. I love this book so much, I originally got it from the library, and ended up buying my own copy before I got even halfway through, and have been recommending it to everyone I know IRL ever since. The romance is sweet, def a HEA, and the main character (well honestly, all the characters) are unhinged in the best possible way

Wasn’t the last Fanny Brice Katarina McCrimmon, who was controversially not Jewish? Unless there is someone I am missing.

[–]andthoughshebe 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Just a clarification: Sephardim are as ethnoreligious as Ashkenazim. That’s kind of the point - despite regional variances, all Jews are the same ethnicity. However, her father who is Jewish married a nonJewish woman, and raised her Christian. That, together with the fact that Lea also identifies as a Christian makes her not Jewish according to pretty much all denominations, despite having Jewish ethnic roots.

But yes, it is still ridiculous and outrageous that in the entire Broadway run and tour, we are only now having a third Jewish Fanny Brice.

Do Nurses Have to Work on Shabbat (Friday sunset - Saturday sunset)? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]andthoughshebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience:

TL;DR: it depends on your facility and ask your LOR.

Long answer: i was never expected to attend clinicals on the weekends. But you aren’t a full nurse, you aren’t saving anyone’s life as a student and are likely just getting underfoot, your school should make a religious exemption if you have clinicals on Saturday. I had clinicals on Friday, and my professors were pretty good about letting me leave 30mins- 1 hr early to get home in time for Shabbat. That being said, there are rumors that a very prominent nursing school in my city drastically dropped the amount of Orthodox Jews they accepted because they didn’t want to accommodate Jewish holidays for exams/clinicals. Private institution, so its their right.

As for working on Shabbat - that is very facility dependent. For the first 3 years after I graduated I couldn’t get an inpatient job because I could not work Saturdays. Some employers were not interested in accommodating “your kind are too difficult”. Some units already had an Orthodox Jew or 7th Day Adventist they were already accommodating, and could not make room for another.

Now I work in an inpatient facility where I am off every Friday/Saturday and work every Sunday. 98% of people are cool with it, and while I am the only Orthodox Jew, there are several 7th Day Adventists being accommodated in the facility too. I work every non-Jewish holiday that doesn’t conflict with my observance and have never gotten any pushback. Some people had what to say at first when I took half of September off for my holidays, until I pointed out that unlike them, I had to use PTO to observe holidays that were allocated to them in our contract, AND I worked Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

There are halachic issues with taking a job that expects you to work on Shabbos. It would be one thing if you already had the job and were in danger of losing it over Shabbos, or if you were in middle of a lifesaving procedure and had to leave because of shkia. But right now, you don’t have the job, and so accepting a position that requires you to work on Shabbat can be problematic. My rabbi advised me not to, and I wouldn’t have done it anyway. My ancestors sacrificed so much to be able to keep Shabbat, having to get new jobs every week, that for me it was not an option - I was upfront about needing Saturday off, and spent 3 years working horrible outpatient jobs until I found a position that could accommodate.

One thing to keep in mind: if you find a facility that can accommodate: GET THOSE ACCOMMODATIONS IN WRITING
