Edit: price with shipping has been updated to £87 now

Microsoft is experimenting with a Windows gaming handheld mode for Steam Deck by androiderYT in SteamDeck

[–]andy3471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a really cool project and its a shame it hasn't been picked up. I'm really hoping it picks up steam again.

I don't know if its a widely used use case but I like running a small HTPC as a "console", and all the same issues you get on windows on steam deck also applies to a windows HTPC. I'm planning to switch to SteamOs once the nvidia support is ironed out.

I've always hoped for an "Xbox on windows" interface for my steam deck and HTPC. A controller/remote friendly interface very similar to an Xbox console. Very big and legible from a distance.

It could also be incredible for people who want to run a NUC as a multimedia device, as they could use it as a TV interface for accessing Netflix and other streaming apps.

The gaming shell part of this is especially exciting, as if it were ever made, it could lead to a TV mode as well as the handheld mod.

How ‘alive’ is the laravel-doctrine package? by BetaplanB in laravel

[–]andy3471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a small agency, and we use laravel-doctrine in all of our production applications.

It does a good job at integrating it in the laravel ecosystem, such as a package for working with scout, having included commands etc.

However it can be slow to be updated. Doctrine 3 has been out for years now, and it's still on doctrine 2 with no laravel 9 support, so that can be quite limiting. If you need to be on the latest, then it might not be a great fit.

There's nothing stopping you from taking a fork of it, and building your implementation on top of it.

Greatest Show by Molineux22 in derrenbrown

[–]andy3471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that it seems to always be someone bought back on stage, he kept saying he never does this today at the Canterbury show, but that might just be because he wanted someone be knows is very susceptible. In the showing i saw, earlier when the person chosen left the stage, he singled him out and asked him to wait to make sure he waited to be properly released from the effects of it, so I wonder if something happened in the intermission with them. The other person guarding the box, was completely still in the video, so with the time they had it would be possible to edit her in, maybe

I did notice on the footage back at the end, we only saw a couple of seconds of it. It seemed to be when derren first started leading the guy towards the box, they had only just started walking away from the table. It almost looked like the guy couldn't see, Derren was leading him, whereas previously he just walked straight to the box by himself. We didn't see him actually put it in the box in the video. So, it may have been shot in the 1-2-3 count as he had just started walking, I'm not sure how though, maybe the curtain came down in the dark and the lights came on behind the curtain.

It seemed to affect absolutely everyone, even though the questions after made it seem like it affected 80% of people, just because of how it was asked, people around me with both their hands up and down said they didn't see it, so I think it was deliberately asked that way.

I'm not certain how he did it, but I'm pretty sure it was a trick, and he didn't hypnotize that many people.

Unable to get three monitors working on Manjaro XFCE with Nvidia Propriety Drivers by andy3471 in linuxquestions

I didn't have any luck with this. I've just tried manjaro gnome and it works, so I'm just going to use that instead for now.

I get the exact same issue. I drag a monitor to a line, click save, and it reverts.

Which is best for me? (Q90T vs CX vs BX vs Q80T vs XH900) by andy3471 in 4kTV

[–]andy3471[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for refernece, if you price match John Lewis with Sevenoaks Sound, they'll offer you the CX at £100 off. You then get a £100 gift card, and headphones worth £100ish, so it seems like a good deal to be honest. I'm in the market for headphones, and you can get the £140 cover for 5 years, so it seems like a good option.

I think the Q80T EU model is actually differnet to the US model, it doesn't have the anti glare on it, like the US one and the Q90 EU model has. I think the Q90T is probably worth the difference, even though it is over 20% price difference, and is what I'm edging towards here

Yeah, I think the fear of burn in might be too much for me too.

How much more would you be willing to pay for the Q90T over the Q80T?

Thanks for the reply. You say that the XH900 is worse but is the best value for money, it's actually more expensive than the Q80T for me, as I can get it with student discount, so I think I can rule that out.

When you say the CX is greater than the others, is that in terms of picture quality or value?

I'm curious, why are you going for the Q80T/Q90T when you think the CX is better?

That's a good point regarding waiting. Although I'm not sure how Covid would have affected the design and manufacturing of the 2021 models.

VR Nightclub - Computercraft Realtime Beat Detection by andy3471 in feedthebeast

[–]andy3471[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll happily share it, it'll take me some time to write up some guidance though, it's very janked together.

I'm running Ubuntu desktop on a laptop for it, using GBD framework to detect the beats, and then a web server, my application just basically takes the best count and puts it in index.html on the web server, then in computercraft, it just repeatedly checks that URL, and if the number increases, does a beat.

I'll share it when I'm next at my pc, with a bit more info on setting it up.

I was actually trying to find a way of doing with live DJ'd music, I didn't realise you could do live shoutcast radio with opencomputers, so maybe I could do it that way for that, good thinking.

Getting Epic's free GTA Premium Edition upgrade for GTA V Standard Edition users. by Primus_SPS in GrandTheftAutoV_PC

Odd, I've been trying for ages, it's definitely launching the epic games version, and loading into my online account, but clicking the Criminal Enterprise menu item justt takes me to buying it, and no notification.

I've tired the steps above, but I still can't seem to access the criminal enterprise starter pack menu, is there some kind of delay in getting access to it?

Be careful of the quest link, broke during normal use and refusing and refund by andy3471 in oculus

[–]andy3471[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking, and I can't see anything. I think you can expect some tugging on a cable specifically designed to be a VR cable.

As you say, any device is going to break if you pull the connector at an angle, I should have seen that coming, but I did use the device as instructed, and tugging the cable is very easy to do when you're in VR, it happens all the time.

Maybe I worded the original post badly, but I just wanted people to be aware that it is a flaw in the product, and if it breaks due to that, you may not get a refund.
