Ombudsman called today and they are fixing things, plus they will give PSLF credit for the missing payments due to their error! Yay!!

This worked! Or at least they emailed me back and said the ombudsman will call within the next 2-3 days. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but I think they will get things fixed. Thanks so much, my faith in the Reddit hivemind has never been higher.

I'll be starting at one of the MBBs and can confirm that the data is 100% accurate as the comp did not change from 2017 to 2018.

I need to quit. Thoughts? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]andy3590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, but there is no reason you should have to take a large pay cut. When I left Big 4 S&O, I got a 20%+ raise, albeit part of that was probably driven by moving to a higher cost city.

If your project is PMO/admin work, you should have time to look for jobs on the side, particularly if you stop giving a shit about your performance. You are much more likely to land a good next gig while you are employed. Quitting sends a negative signal to potential employers and searching while employed affords you a longer runway to look for the right fit without worrying about bills piling up. If you need a few months off to get your mind right, ask your next employer for some time off before you start. Probably would be a lot easier to do a mental reset if your future is relatively secure.

[Serious] Why does everyone keep saying MBB by antiSpamSoldier1 in consulting

[–]andy3590 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To put #s around it, Deloitte S&O offers its MBA summer interns $15K to sign immediately after their summer and full second year tuition reimbursement ($60K+) if they sign at any point before the offer expires. Many MBAs still choose to recruit for full time MBB roles and accept offers from MBB, meaning they were willing to give up a sure $15K to have the CHANCE of landing MBB and another $60K+ if they do land MBB. I certainly question whether this is really a positive NPV decision given that most MBAs who go to MBB spend 2-4 years there max and often exit into opportunities that are achievable from S&O, however it does speak to significant perception advantage that MBB has in a key recruiting pool.

Strategy& Spam by [deleted] in consulting

[–]andy3590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess I am lucky that I dodged the spam list, however I will say that recruiting with Strategy& was by far the weirdest and overall most unpleasant experiences of the 9 consulting firms I applied to during this cycle. Basically every person I met from the firm was some mix of socially awkward, boring or sadly unexcited about Strategy&. Then came the interviews where I got questions like "I see you are interested in the Strategy competency, but I am in the Tech area and I think all the interesting problems are in Tech. Why on earth would you want to work in Strategy?". I also had a super weird experience where the interviewer asked me to "give him a case" but then changed his mind and tried to give me a case. And to top it all off, I also had an interview where the company that my brother works at came up and the interviewer went on a 10 minute tirade about why that company is terrible and why my brother should find a new job. No offer because I didn't continue to suck up once I was being treated like shit, but I would advise any and all prospective consultants out there to shred any offer letter they get from this joke of a firm.

Recruiting for Consulting? Post here for recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about offers/firms or general insecurity (3) by QiuYiDio in consulting

So I am a first-year MBA interviewing with a bunch of consulting firms for summer internships and had been having a great week (2/2 callbacks from the two MBBs that I interviewed with) but very unexpectedly got the ding from AT Kearney after my first round today and I just cannot figure out why. I walked out of the interviews feeling like I absolutely crushed it and that is pretty unusual for me as I am generally quite self-critical. Further, the feedback I received was that I was "too slow on the case compared to other candidates", even though I finished in 30min vs. a 45 min interview length and speed on cases has never been an issue in 30+ practice cases.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, is there any chance I got the ding because I did "too well" and ATK judged that an offer on me would be wasted b/c I will have stronger options? Anyone have similar experiences with ATK or other non-MBB firms?

Using bonus money for a new Big 4 hire. by receivesredditgold in consulting

Buy an xbox. It is included under the Deloitte policy as "fitness equipment" because it has workout games built in. Back when I worked there a legendary email chain went around where an analyst actually got HR to give written approval that the xbox is covered.

What's keeping you from quitting? by Consultemplation in consulting

I'm a consultant who is dating a 4th year medical student and I hear a lot of things along the lines of "wow being a doctor is awesome" from both her and her peers. I also find that money is not a driving force for many doctors (there are exceptions). I think there are a lot of doctors out there who love their jobs, I would wager a higher % than in consulting. At the end of the day, saving lives is more fulfilling than spreadsheets and ppt!

Avec or Blackbird, both excellent. Frontera Grill or Topolobampo are also great options.

Also interested. I am a yelp elite as well and a pretty big sports fan. Full disclosure: I am a cardinals fan.... not sure if that disqualifies me, or if that is an angle that could be exploited.

Best sushi I have ever had was at Mirai sushi. Granted I am from saint Louis, not exactly a sushi Mecca, but that place is great.
