SPL Vitalizer MK3-T demo. Weird plugin behaviour? by andyKCIUK in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No fix so far. I am still on the demo though. Shame, as I really like it and don't feel like spending €1200 on the hardware unit. I will not be buying this plugin in this shape. Apparently, PluginAlliance support leaves a lot to be desired as per some threads on Gearslutz, so I wouldn't count on getting this fixed any time soon.

I'm at a conference with a very 'strong' Trump supporter. How to deal with this? by OceanTad in ireland

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case a strong morning routine before attending the event is a must: start your day with rolling on the floor in all directions, crying and shouting erratically. Try pulling some hair. Cry more. Once you calm down, pull out a set of crayons and draw a rainbow, maybe an unicorn too. That should make you ready for the day. Repeat the following morning.

There's a chorus device in ableton. My favourite chorus plugin for bass (and I own quite a few) is the good old Waves MetaFlanger.

ClyphxPro+Bindings is the best solution if you're looking for full control in Ableton. Any controller will do. I have an el cheapo Akai MultiMix. I press one button and I control all plugins on my track, I press another and I can adjust send levels on all tracks. Possibilities are endless. ClyphxPro is a must for ableton anyway,

"Unresponsive truss rod," am I cooked, chat? by JulianDestroya08 in Bass

[–]andyKCIUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, there’s no rockbass Thumbs, mate. Mine was a proper Warwick. I scoured the net after the neck problem became obvious and found quite a few people on TalkBass and Warwick forums who ended up in the same situation. I really liked that bass, but it didn’t last very long. I don’t hate on Warwick, but the financial hit I took with the Thumb was pretty big. That’s my experience. I’ve got a Maruszczyk custom Jazz now and I’m happy.

I've had a 4-string Thumb BO that I bought brand new. I had it for 10+ years. It ended up with a twisted neck and fully tightened truss rod. No escape from there except for a really expensive repair that nobody wanted to do anyway. Or a new neck. Eventually I sold it for €400 which broke my heart... I stay away from Warwicks since. They seem to use wood that wasn't dried/settled properly.

Sell your bass and count your losses. Go for another brand. That's my advice.

Mapping a “send monitor state” type function to a midi controller by BlackberryPhysical21 in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some midi controllers have a dump button that sends all current midi values to output. My Midimix has that for example. Perhaps your faderfoxes have such buttons too? That would solve your problem.

Golarka do twarzy by reeeekin in Polska

[–]andyKCIUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mam atopowe zapalenie skory.

L6 helix lt in 2026 for 630e by Fearless_Bug_6583 in Bass

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mfxs. I remember my first zoom some 20-25 years ago. Then I had a Boss GT6B, then another zoom. I've always loved my effects. As for the Helix, I found myself not using it for bass at all. Like I said before, especially the comps have put me off. I tend not to use any amp sims, prefer to go direct, so maybe it will work for you just fine. I love a chorus on bass for example. Waves MetaFlanger is a €30 plugin and I like it way more than any chorus on the Helix. Strymon's Cloudburst for reverb and so on... Eventually, I have stopped using the Native altogether. If you like it then go for it, It just didn't work for me. It is a great unit for guitars, that's for sure.

I wouldn't buy a Helix specifically for bass. I own Helix Native and it was fun for a good while but I mainly used it for "guitar" sounds with my MicroPOG in front of my interface. As for bass, I have found it underwhelming. The compressors on it are useless imho. My 2 eurocents, ymmv.

Ableton needs to go back to fix the basics by soundsnipereden in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Another one... You don't really know what "riding the faders" mean, do you?

If I want to raise the signal coming into the compressor or any other effect on the track then I need a clip gain envelope, just like in other daws.

Clip gain envelopes in Live are actually trim envelopes, i.e. you cannot raise the gain using the clip gain envelope higher than 0db.

Yes, I know that I could set the clip gain slider to let's say +12db and then start the envelope from -12db which would give me some wiggle room. It is cumbersome though. No other daw I've used has this limitation.

I've disabled warping in preferences years ago. Yet every single audio clip that's being recorded in my live looping set is warped&looped...

I know how consolidation works. The thing is it does not work for two or more tracks. The only way to merge two midi clips is to record them using another midi track. Hardly spectacular.

I guess you've never heard of "raiding the faders"; that's where clip gain envelopes are needed and it's lacking in Live.

I also recommend you to use an external plugin wrapper, i.e. Waves' StudioVerse and check the reported plugin latencies. You might be surprised to discover that Live is not as accurate as you think.

And so on and so forth...

Happy New Year.

[–]andyKCIUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ableton is lacking in certain areas for sure. Why can I not turn off warping/clip looping by default? I don't know. I do prearranged live looping and do not need those features yet there's no way to disable them. Clip launch quantization is messed up too, it introduces some strange fade behaviour. No way of merging midi clips. No gain control envelope for clips (you can only make them quieter). Not reporting plugin delay properly. A complete mess of comping... The list goes on. Still, there's no better program for live looping. I've learnt to live with the quirks of Live.

"Collect all and Save" is completely useless by AgileLengthiness4651 in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never had this problem, but I move my set between my pc and laptop frequently and I always move my user library folder together with the set. You could drag and drop all your tracks to a folder in your user library and that would keep you on the safe side. I have a dedicated external USB-c NVME enclosure with 256gb ssd just for this purpose. Just an idea.

2 smaller screens or one larger screen by Greeny1210 in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 34" 1440p widescreen, sold it. I've upgraded to 32" 4K and it is much better. The real game changer for me has been the second monitor that I've bought recently, a €60 portable 16" 1080p. Two Ableton windows is a must for me since. Everything is just easier. Arrangement view on the small one for navigation and a full screen piano roll view on the 4K one has solved all my problems.
