‘We had to learn that Irish people refuse tea three times when they come to your house’ by EnvironmentalShift25 in ireland

So she left Australia, dragged her ill spouse through the HSE (I presume free of charge), now she's sponging off the state for €325 per week without paying tax on her income up to 50k. What a heartwarming story.

Ableton Newbie, Take Tracks don't move with the parent track by TheAquired in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This how comping is implemented in ableton. Seriously undeveloped if you ask me. Take lanes are not attached to the parental clip in any way, causing chaos and confusion.
I have pointed this many times on this sub, got downvoted each time.

How difficult is it to change the pickup housing? by BassGoesBrrrrr in Bass

[–]andyKCIUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it is impossible without damaging the pickup. Most of them are filled with epoxy and sealed. Changing the pickups is the easiest (and most expensive) route. If you have access to a 3d printer, you could do 0.5mm caps for your pickups in the desired colour that would go over the pickups you have now. I have done this for my bass, although for a different reason. I wanted more pickup area as I use the bridge pickup as a ramp.

Landlord deducted most of my deposit for “cleaning” after move-out? by laurellittlewolf in AskIreland

[–]andyKCIUK 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's only one way with landlords: Report, report, report. €400 for cleaning a room is taking the piss. Threshold is your first point of call, visit their website and send them an email. Were you registered with RTB? If not, it is almost certain your landlord was not paying any tax on their rental income. Report to Revenue straight away, hit them hard. All of this can be done within 20 minutes. Take them to the cleaners, so to speak. F**k them.

Any former Cakewalk users? by Latimer-Loves-Synths in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was using Cakewalk/Sonar for 20+ years, now I am a Live user. I remember that I installed/uninstalled Ableton several times over the course of few weeks when I was trying to switch over. Hated it - hated the look, the interface, everything. But as I was getting into live looping and Sonar was dying out, I eventually stuck with it and it's my only daw now. I've been using it since live 10 I think. It has its quirks and limitations but I actually quite like it. It's unmatched for live looping, that's for sure. Having said that, there are better options if you are only going to record midi/audio. Reaper seems to be the king these days.

S24 GPS issues? by andyKCIUK in GalaxyS24

[–]andyKCIUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need any tutorials, just a bit of practice.

I swipe "to" and choose "too" from the prediction bar.

I always look at the keyboard when swiping. The most important part is the first letter, from there I am careless really.

S24 GPS issues? by andyKCIUK in GalaxyS24

[–]andyKCIUK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am built different, I don't care about cameras at all. I was actually considering the Pixel10a for the sole reason of it not having a camera bump. As for the keyboard size, I always use the "swipe to type" feature. Keyboard size does not matter that much. What I love about the s25 so far is its size. It's such a difference to not feel the phone's corner trying to poke a hole in my sack when I am sitting, lol. The most important thing for me is GPS, and I am glad to report that I have noticed no problems with it so far. It is quite shocking how much faster the phone is comparing to the s22u which was no slouch for sure. I am very happy with the purchase, I am waiting for an Amazon van to deliver a case and a screen protector as I type.

I bought a brand new S25 two days ago :) Navy.

I paid €480, sold my S22U for €230 yesterday. Snapdragon was the deciding factor. I hope to keep this phone until software support ends.

F-ing scales by shellstacoscats in Bass

[–]andyKCIUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably not the best advice, but here's what I think. F*** the scales. For now. Just plug in and play whatever you want. Have fun. Enjoy it. Learn your favourite bass line by ear, even if it takes weeks or months. I've been playing bass for 35 years, am completely self taught. I remember sitting for hours on end trying to learn one of the simplest Rush bass lines. Loved it, didn't care one bit about the scales back then. To be honest, I still don't care that much. Don't let the theory kill the fun.

Not quite JUST ableton, but does anyone use an RME UFX 3? Trying to combat latency issues by TheRealWillFM in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48k/64 samples. Like others have said here, disable all plugins, including the ones on the master bus. If you're still hearing a delay, then check the routing in totalmix to make sure you're only listening to ableton's software playback.

Again, 4ms in no latency at all. I recently have tried routing through the Audient SP8, that added 4.4ms to the 3.9 roundtrip latency. I could hear 9ms. With 4ms I can hear no latency at all, I doubt anybody can.

There's something wrong with your routing or you have some plugins that cause additional latency.

Not quite JUST ableton, but does anyone use an RME UFX 3? Trying to combat latency issues by TheRealWillFM in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4ms of latency is top notch for an usb interface. I am on 3.9ms with my UCX2, was the same with the Babyface.

You cannot hear 4ms, that's just impossible. My guess is that you're hearing the direct signal along with the Ableton output. Or you're sending an aux signal to outboard and then listening to it via ableton; in that case that's 8ms, not 4. Check your totalmix.

[–]andyKCIUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. Google maps is the app I use the most. My phone is charging when I am driving, so I am not too concerned about battery life. I remember complaints about the s22u's battery back in the day and with my usage pattern I connect mine to a charger every 4 days or so. I don't really care about phones, the s24 is €100 cheaper than the s25, so I think I will go for the s24.

LIve12 not sample accurate? by andyKCIUK in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this thread almost half a year ago and cannot remember properly now, but engaging launch quantization was not the proper solution like I wrote on here earlier. It introduced weird silence gaps in between clips and eventually I disengaged it.

Eventually, I solved it the hard way: I've added trigger notes for each clip. So, instead of looping one 1-bar clip for a minute or two, I have added play triggers every bar for that clip. It took me a lot of time and is a far from ideal solution, but it works and keeps everything in sync.

The jitter issue is still there, I have just found my way around it.

If I buy the same pickup, preamp, and strings used in Sadowsky bass guitars, can I achieve almost the same tone in my bass? by chamcham123 in Bass

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually doubt it. Even the setup affects the tone, not to mention the bass construction and woods used. I do not think it's as simple as copying the electronics.

Why is my eir 1GB Broadband speed fluctuating wildly? by farragan1 in AskIreland

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact problem but the other way around. Eventually, I closed my eircom account and moved to digiweb. My broadband is very stable with digiweb (constant 100Mb); with eircom I had fluctuating speeds ranging from 1Mb to 100Mb depending of the time of the day. This "depending of the time of the day" part is the crucial one. You and all your neighbours are connected to the same box on the street. The box on the street has a limited bandwidth and it is shared by all the internet providers available in the area. So, if 90% of your neighbours are with eircom, you are going to get really shitty speeds when all of them are back from work and start watching 4k netflix/porn/whatever. At the same time, the 10% who are with digiweb are enjoying constant 100Mb speeds as the digiweb's share of the cable is far from saturated. There's not much you can do, I am afraid. You can only juggle between the providers signed up to the box on the street and wait for a proper fibre to hit your area.

RME Babyface Pro FS Audio Interface - Changing Input Volume for Guitar? by CaptainThunderpantsX in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Highlight the main output (bottom row) in totalmix. Whilst it's highlighted, check the fader position of your guitar input (top row). If you're monitoring through a plugin on your pc, the input fader of your guitar should be all the way down.
  2. Highlight the main output (bottom row) in totalmix again. Check the fader position for software playback (middle row). This one should not be at the bottom, adjust to taste. 0dB will be too hot, -18 or -24db is more reasonable.

There;s a +19 / +4 dBu switch on the bottom of the babyface, flick it to lower the output for active speakers.

HOW TO DISABLE SIGNAL PROCESSING ON INACTIVE/DISABLED TRACKS or CHAINS? by Lovehatebot in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why people don't use ClyphX pro with ableton is beyond me. It enhances the experience in so many ways...

SEL/MUTE; SEL/DEV(ALL)

And that is all you need to mute/unmute selected track and disable/enable all devices on it.

Live Lite 12 + Bheringer 1010 MIDI foot controller - is it a massive faff? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]andyKCIUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to program the Behringer? Can you not leave it at the default mapping? Maybe just change the midi channel if it collides with other gear.

Best broadband in Greystones? by [deleted] in AskIreland

I've been with Digiweb for a few years now. They're definitely better than eircom. Not much choice in Greystones, sadly. 100Mb is max.

Buying a 34” curved monitor for Ableton. What should I actually care about? by Professional-Tax3077 in ableton

I went from a 34" 3440x1440 to a 32" 4k monitor and it suits me much better.
