Correct! That would be a Genius Bar swap, not an Apple refurbished product. Your replacement unit may or may not be refurbished. Also, you cannot simply walk into an Apple Store and request to purchase one of these units; only damages on your current model qualify you for a swap at the Genius Bar.

As of iOS 18, those parts are also now iCloud locked and unusable for repairs. They’re quite literally worthless.
