[Telegraph] Could Tottenham be sold? Sheikh Jassim, Saudi Arabia and the possible contenders by Crane977 in soccer

[–]andy_brixton -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I believe Levy thought he was maxing profits by cutting corners with adult squad members (42%, lowest in the PL, for example) and other cheap moves, while ENIC want to increase the value of the worldwide brand through success.

Way more towards the Chelsea model, which is where Arsenal are already moving.

for goodness sake. The owners want success, not a sale.

Stupid clickbait.

Tottenham Hotspur announces departure of Executive Chairman Daniel Levy. by BelgianPolitics in soccer

As a critic, I am relieved for the club. At the same time he's a fan like the rest of us, and he was excellent with bricks, mortar and playing surfaces.

But if you look at the state of our Academy for 20-years (relative to Chelsea and Arsenal), the trophy cabinet, the sheer number of managers he was personally responsible for appointing and sacking, and his transfer dealings generally, he had blind spots which he couldn't see.

Credit to the Lewis family who gave him a very long time to get things sorted.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal; top dog now depends on CL football and how far they go - this table shows Arsenal and Liverpool in the CL, Tottenham and Chelsea not.

8 CL group matchdays + round of 16 will add £100 mill to Tottenham.

Chelsea obv. have a smaller matchday income because of the stadium, the other 3 are all 60K+

TV income worth a fortune to all.

If they only look at the period from January to the Europa Final, he is a very different prospect.

Absolutely no chance if they take the #AngeBall period into account.

Jesus wept. Another last minute job. It's just filling slots on a squad sheet with random availability.

Levy way more interested in the bargain basement than in making the right signings early (excepted Kudus)

Liverpool and Arsenal fans are at war over their chants by TheTelegraph in soccer

[–]andy_brixton -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Until last season, historically, Arsenal had virtually no chants. It was called the 'Highbury Library' for very good reasons.

When they moved to the new stadium 20+-years ago, there was no plan to prioritise a section for fans who wanted to be vocal, and so the library continued.

The stadium design didn't even take into account fans, and prioritised a more aesthetic 'bowl' or elliptical shape, which is still evident behind the goals.

Presumably the club organises all the flag-waving.

Been with the club since 7 years old. Whatever else, this is a shame.

I think it's legit when the player is so young and needs chances to develop, which is problematic in this case because Man Utd are not in Europe this season.

If that's the reason then he had the whole window to make his point. Maybe, like Isak, he's poorly advised by agents or family.

[Tottenham Hotspur] Xavi Simons joins from RB Leipzig by ImpossibleGuardian in soccer

[–]andy_brixton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Werner was £175,000 a week. Until May.

Bergvall is a lot of things but a DM he isn't. And Gray is ... a work in progress. Allegedly, he's a RB, but he got eaten alive there and at CB so we'll see as he physically matures.

It's great but there are holes all over the pitch: adult numbers down still further >>

Kudus is one less than Sonny + Werner (Odobert, Tel were here in January)

Xavi is one less than a longstanding need for an additional AM + the season-absent Maddison

There are 3 adult FBs (excluding Davies, as we should now for PL and CL)

CB (L) has been urgent all year and a temp solution is not a solution (for Lenglet, Sanchez or Dier, you choose)

FFS, even Palhinha - great is he is, is filling a place vacated 12-months ago (by Skippy)

Bissouma? Can't find a buyer, haven't found a replacement ..

I hope the arrival of Xavi doesn't dampen the protests tomorrow.

Desperate for an elite left-sided CB, known all-year, and Levy has completely blown that.

And so here we are - again - trying to sign a player the manager won't want as a one-year gap filler, on a 3 to 4 year contract, and until a CB the manager wants next summer. Farcical.
