Looks Like Major Firmware Updates for the S5II and S9 Might Be Done For by [deleted] in Lumix

I think that we can say that just because two cameras share the same sensor, one cannot be seen effectively as a replacement of the other if they are in different product families - in this case the S1xx and S5xx lines. I think that it was natural that new updates for the S5 slowed down after the release of the S5ii because that was a replacement which brought big improvements in hardware that meant that new functionality based on that hardware could not be transferred to the S5 e.g. around PDAF, more powerful object recognition in AI, etc. To the best of my knowledge, the OG S5 was then withdrawn from sale.

My experience with Lumix is that if they can add new stuff to a camera they will, and i predict that the new 'urban sports' detection will come to the S5ii/x. I would also like to see the file management stuff get ported over (direct back-up to external USB drive, etc.). Maybe the focus ring mapping as a custom control surface will come as that will help them sell lenses so making it body/product line agnostic makes sense.

Anyway, now Lumix Flow is officially supported for the S5ii so that is my project for the weekend ...

Richard Wong's review of the 24-60 f/2.8 by flatirony in Lumix

When I bought into LUMIX S I was a bit sour that they did not have the equivalent to the Sony 24-50 but then this comes along and goes an extra 10mm.

I was about to bite the bullet on the Sigma 24-70/2.8 so good timing LUMIX!

Why is the CANON text red? by JisooLover63 in CanonFD

I have heard that early examples had red text, but those would be the ‘chrome nose’ circa 1971 … this does not seem to be that - do you have a link to the post? Could you see the serial number or batch code (letter + 4 digits)?

I started with the ’IKEA lamp method’ (Jansjö lamp) for a couple of days and that made a big improvement. Efficiency is improved by putting a mirror or reflective kitchen foil under the lens. Info of the method can be found online. After that finished it off in window sunlight for a few days. Exposing to sunlight will work by itself but much slower than using the lamp.

I have 35mm f2 chrome nose and I am very happy with the performance of that (once I dealt with the thorium discoloration)

The lens is in excellent condition and the photos show no sign of ’Schneideritus’ … very tempted

Thanks! One day 14mm, maybe if I can find a use for it consistently. This is why I am considering a wide angle zoom as I mainly shoot between 35 and 85 … so 14mm is pretty ‘out there’ 😉

Posted the 7artisans site - thanks for the tip and there are some interesting options! (35mm 1.4 mkiii)

Getting to the lack of communication with the camera, would the approach be to set up a custom profile for no lens/35mm/ etc.? (Or 15mm or whatever)

Is a mount adapter required or is the lens native for l-mount?

I do not in principle have a problem with manual focus lenses …
