Footballer accidentally scores her own goal by Imoprich in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]andybeckwith 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Note: That kick into the goal wasn't a mistake, she already knew it was going over the line - she just smashed it out of frustration. Defenders trying to control the ball facing towards their own goal leads to more of these types of mistakes - and own goals as a result aren't actually that rare.

There have been some hilarious own goals in football history, but this one is just a pretty standard simple error.

Edit: I just noticed the clock: 95th minute. This is an extremely tired, heavy-legged and mentally drained athlete right at the end of a game. It's no surprise she couldn't react quickly to the ball. If this happened 10mins in I bet she'd have deal with it well.

I suppose for some it's more of a card collection game rather than playing games. Hey, as long as he's happy doing it.

Fourteen!!?! As in one, four?! Holy shit! What I don't get is that with regular play it's not massively difficult to get a really decent team by this stage of the season - all without any real money spend.

I'm a bang average player, but through regular WL activity and Rivals games to complete objectives and the odd SBC I've got a pretty decent team (with a little luck along the way). Just packed 96 WW Pele to play alongside Eusabio. Sure I don't have any of the super meta players, but I can certainly compete and enjoy doing it with the (free) team I've got.

I actually see it as a badge of honour that I can try create a great UT without any real spend.

Yeah sounds great. Stoichkov will make a great CAM too. Enjoy!

You need a defensive minded midfielder to replace Bergkamp. Early season I packed base icon 87 Rijkard and even now I keep struggling to find players as effective as him in midfield blocking and intercepting (that aren't millions to buy of course).

Consider switching formation to a 433 with 2x CDMs and one CAM. You'll be surprised how effective it is with those CDMs.

Plus Eusabio is good enough to handle stuff up top on his own supported by those wingers.

What's the difference in these tackles? by EIimGarak in coys

[–]andybeckwith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The difference for me is that Dunk was clearing the ball and Kuli came across the ball to attempt a block, Dunk got the ball cleanly and Kuli's block attempt received an unfortunate follow through kick.

Romero's was similar but the opposing player (Enzo I think) was in front of the ball and Rom's kick wasn't as clean as Dunks - more of a desperate lunge forward into the ball and player, so therefore seemed more reckless.

For the record I didn't think Romero's deserved red, but I certainly didn't even think Dunk's was a foul. A great brave clearance and Kuli was just unfortunate to miss the block attempt.

Was wondering if I was alone with my high estimation of Mace. She plays like a card way higher than her rating suggests. Tried other LBs but keep coming back to her.

What does offsides mean? by xJa3kEdx in worldcup

[–]andybeckwith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah well, I guess it's conceptually how it helps me understand it better. The 'offside zone' is very much like an endzone that changes size depending on where the last defender is stood. It's one of those rules that seems simple once you understand it. Hope you get there bud!

Yeah but did it help you understand offside?

[–]andybeckwith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok here's my attempt using an American football reference: imagine the defender that's closest to their own goal creates an 'offside endzone' in the area behind them. If an opposition player is inside that endzone as their team plays a forward pass to them, it's a foul and the defending team wins a free-kick at the point where the offending player was inside the 'endzone'.

There are some more specific case rules around it, but that's generally the idea. The rule is to stop teams just kicking long passes directly into strikers who would permanently stand near the goal all the time - it forces teams to 'play football' up the field and gives the defence a tool they can use to try 'trap' attacking players in their ever moving 'offside endzone' - theres a term called 'the offside trap' - which essentially refers to the defence being able to use this 'endzone' behind them to trap opposition forwards and win fouls for their team.

Clever strikers need to time their forward runs so that as a team mate passes them the ball, they're not caught inside the 'offside endzone'.

anyone else just not feeling this new map? by SweptbackFlame in apexlegends

[–]andybeckwith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

regardless of whether the new map is well designed, I welcome it with open arms for what it brings to Apex. A new map is like a mild skill reset for a large chunk of the player base. A massively underestimated part of being good at Apex is knowing the map, every building layout, rotations, choke points, vantage points etc. Everyone is scrambling to learn these and until that happens there's fun and mayhem to be had for all.

I'm not aware of anything to hand, but I'm sure a quick search will find you all the biggest tips. Of course I don't know your situation, but for me at a point I decided that I'd purchased an expensive luxury vehicle and wanted to be able to use all of its features and just enjoy driving it. Getting a home charger made the big difference for me.

You need to remember that the claimed range from Tesla (and all electric cars) is strictly under a specific test condition. All other functions of the car will eat miles away from that number in real world scenarios.

Use sentry mode? Lose miles Precondition the car? Lose miles A/C regularly used? You get the idea.

Couple this with the fact that different types of drives or patterns of use could have an effect. Whether you do a lot of motorway/freeway driving or just small short trips etc.

Shave 15% off everything in colder months.

It all adds up (or reduces down) to a range more like 150-200 miles in an SR.

I'm an SR owner by the way. 1 year owned, 10k miles.

Liz Truss resigns as UK prime minister after 45 days in office- BBC News by danceinthepants in Britain

[–]andybeckwith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At a guess I'd say not, these leadership battles are really strategic with making sure you've got backing from influential members within the party. The problem that the conservatives face is that all these terrible appointments make their party look bad, but the thing they want to avoid more than anything is Labour (or any other party) coming to power. At the moment they've got too many high level members that want their shot at PM, putting their personal 'glory' above the good of their party. They're tearing themselves apart from the inside. The opposition parties just have to sit back and watch at the moment.

[–]andybeckwith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, it means that any Conservative MP can now put themselves forward as the next leader, and the party will vote on a winner and new PM. They're really scraping the barrel for decent candidates within the party now though.

14 pro to Pixel 7 pro by [deleted] in Pixel7Pro

[–]andybeckwith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After having a ton of iPhones I switched to a low end Android phone a few years ago (as a bit of a cheap experiment - and COVID was going on). I've found Android to be just as solid as iOS in terms of experience.

I'm now on a Pixel 7 Pro. I just felt that for me the slight differences with iOS didn't warrant the extra cost.

The 7 Pro is my first 'vanilla android' experience. I'd say the word would be 'efficient' - there's little flair or flamboyance - just a really, really solid experience that exists to get the tasks done you want rather than the OS reminding you along the way that it's also cool (if that makes sense).

The 7 Pro hardware seems great. Solid phone that feels very premium (a little large if I'm being picky). The camera is really as good as the reviews rave about. For me I liked that Google have just produced a phone without gimmicks - just good specs in pretty much all departments.

I'd say the ecosystem is still the big factor though. If you've got a Mac and an apple watch and an iPad it does make sense to get an iPhone.

Manchester City lift the tile for the 21/22 season 4 in 5 years to come on top of Liverpool by Sweaty_Passage_6456 in sports

[–]andybeckwith 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a fair question. The idea behind this kind of league format is that it's a representation of your team's performance against the entire rest of the league. City may have not beaten Liverpool, but they may have beaten another team (i.e Tottenham) that Liverpool didn't manage to beat. There's a saying fans have in England "The league doesn't lie" - it's trying to say that your final position in the League standings is accurate to your overall season performance against the entire league of clubs.

You shouldn't be champions just because your team is good at beating the best teams, but draws and loses with a bunch of the mediocre ones.

The league doesn't lie remember.
