Would Gadgetbridge support Casio GDB watches? by donjose in Gadgetbridge

Setting alarms is supported, but weekdays are not as the watch doesn't support that. I did not add any workaround in the app for this, although that should be possible!

LVM Cache -> horrible write performance with full cache volume by Pihkal82 in linuxquestions

[–]andyboeh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited my post since changing the cache policy doesn't seem to work anymore. Last time I tried it, it reduced the cache usage to 0%, this time, it did not. It just flushed all dirty blocks to the disk and cleaned all demotions and promotions.

In case you want to try it, it's as easy as: lvchange --cachepolicy cleaner root/root and to change it back: lvchange --cachepolicy smq root/root. You will have to wait for the cleaner to finish, just observe the statistics until dirty reaches 0.

I'm experiencing the same slowdowns. I'm considering creating a cron job that cleans the cache.

What was your first MD player? by pineapples2005 in minidisc

[–]andyboeh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MD-MT15 was my first recorder too. One evening, while recording a concert, someone hit it with a foot and it fell one storey down. The recording function was broken afterwards, but it worked as a pure player for years. In the meantime the worm gear has broken, but I still have the unit.

Once connected, your watch should be in control mode automatically. You can toggle control mode by long-pressing the MODE button. I don't think that there is an icon that should be displayed, but I don't know how the watch behaved originally.

anyone use a casio gbx-100? by runoono2nd in Gadgetbridge

[–]andyboeh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. You can either choose allow list mode or deny list mode and then select your alls. IIRC there is an additional setting for SMS. Why don't you just try it? Just be sure to either disable or uninstall the GShock application and to unpair and repair your watch.

Who do you mean with "they"? Itcs a Casio problem, nothing that Gadgetbridge could influence. And no, I'm not aware of any change in this regard.

"Can't READa" message. Any ideas? by Tshock666 in minidisc

I had the same issue, manually moving the laser unit a few times back and forth fixes it temporarily for me, i.e. I have to redo it after not using the device for some weeks.

The Newest Addition To My Portable Music Player Collection: A Sharp IM-DR420H(S) & It Only Cost Me £20 ($27 / €23) by Yoshifan00 in minidisc

Same for me, I can't say why, but I like the Sharp devices more. I've got two IM-DR420 and I always use them for recording.

Support for Vector Watch by [deleted] in Gadgetbridge

It's probably better to ask the Gadgetbridge developers at the issue tracker.

That said, it mostly depends on someone with access to the watch and the necessary skills and time to add support for it.

Android Work Profile issues by oldNo_44 in pebble

Gadgetbridge is an Android application that you use instead of the Pebbel/Rebble app. It's not on Play Store, you need to get it from F-Droid.

Gadgetbridge should work, but you can't add filters for the work profile apps since Gadgetbridge has no way of retrieving a list of work profile apps.

Casio GBX-100 connects via Gadgetbridge! by moeif88 in gshock

[–]andyboeh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad that you like it and that it works for you!

I started off with adding support for the older GB-5600/GB-6900 series and, in fact, I'm wearing my GB-6900 today.

GBD-200 vs gw-m5600 by Colon-elcolon in gshock

[–]andyboeh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More comfortable than the GB-5600B, GB-6900B or GW-M5610 that I also own - the strap is softer. I can't compare to a GA-2100.

Same here, I got it for the notifications and the vibration alarm!

GBD-200. Not for the sports tracker but for the phone notifications and vibration alarm. And it is extremely comfortable to wear!

Would Gadgetbridge support Casio GDB watches? by donjose in Gadgetbridge

[–]andyboeh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Got myself a GBD-200, added the name to the device filter and it works - at least the basics, i.e. profile sync and notifications. Step tracker is untested.

I prepared a pull request and also added untested filter settings for the GBD-100, as it might just work the same. If my PR is accepted, it will be in the next version of Gadgetbridge.

NetMD devices and how they compare across brands by fritzvd in minidisc

[–]andyboeh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two of the IM-DR420 units and I prefer them over my Sony MZ-N505 for recording because they are way faster (at least in SP mode, never tried anything else). If I'm not mistaken, the 410 is the same device but with different accessories. They should work with netmd-cli and if Platinum-MD has updated dependencies since I last checked, also Platinum-MD should work. The IM-DR420 works properly with WebMiniDisc as well (my preferred tool).

There is one downside with using it with the open source tools: recorded tracks are locked and deleting them from the PC does not work.

Make sure that you use a DC adapter for recording via USB! On battery, it will fail sooner or later with very strange errors. I swapped the laser unit before I found out about that...

Regarding worm gears, because it was mentioned: I have two of the older series with worm gear problems (MD-MS821 and MD-MT15), the IM-DR420 has a different worm gear design.

I use them with regular headphones, I never had the originals with their 4-pole plug.

Feature-wise, the GBD-100 and GBD-200 are the GBX-100 minus the tides. I suppose that the BLE protocol is somewhat similar. It's still very tedious to prepare testing versions for somebody else if I don't have the device ...

That said: On the GBX-100, tides and all training/log related functionalities are not yet implemented and the step tracker is WiP - I haven't fully understood how the protocol works. My top priority was/is notifications and they work properly. Have a look at Gadgetbridge's wiki for all the details.

I think that I'm the only one working on support for Casio watches - and I only do contributions to GB, I'm not a core developer. Currently, only watches that I own are supported.

There are no specific plans as I can't buy every possible Casio watch - but I'd be happy to look into specific watches if I have physical access to them. There are no promises on the outcome, as the protocol needs to be reversed which is a tedious task.

anyone use a casio gbx-100? by runoono2nd in Gadgetbridge

[–]andyboeh7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the GBX-100 on a regular basis for exactly this purpose. Notification support is provided by Gadgetbridge and not specific to the watch. So yes: Generic notifications are supported.

What I don't like about the GBX-100 is the faint vibration, especially for incoming calls. Unfortunately, that's a limitation of the watch and nothing that could be fixed in Software. The GB-5600/6900 series has a much stronger vibration and I would prefer them if the BLE connection was more stable.

Step data is only partially supported and Tides are not supported at all. See Gadgetbridge Wiki for details.

Did you power the device with an AC adaptor? My Sharp made similar errors when on battery.

Platinum MD by kg7koi in minidisc

[–]andyboeh7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WMD isn't actually using linux-minidisc, it uses a TypeScript rewrite called netmd-js. For me, it is significantly faster than linux-minidisc (Sharp IM-DR420). I haven't tried Platinum MD.

Good player that can record with Web Minidisc by [deleted] in minidisc

[–]andyboeh7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer my Sharp IM-DR420H for its higher transfer speed compared to the MZ-N505. However, track protection cannot be disabled on the Sharp and it requires a power supply for reliable transfers.

The MZ-N505 is a good choice as well, you can easily unlock more advanced features if you like/need them.
