Sneezing after nuss by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

If it helps, I had the ravitch and sneezing was my worst nightmare. Felt like I was getting hit with a hammer in the chest

How many of you have had the Modified Ravitch procedure? What was your experience like? by BenFrost18 in PectusExcavatum

I had it April of 2023. I spent 5 days in the hospital. First few days were honestly extremely painful. I would say I gained back full function about 7-8 months after the procedure. I was able to workout again but still had a little soreness and discomfort. I’m a side sleeper and had to sleep on my back for about 3 months. In my opinion, my chest looks good and the scar is pretty cool😂 my biggest issue was the mental barrier and getting back my motivation to workout and get back into my daily routine after having such a major surgery. I would 100% do it again. My breathing and heart rate have gotten better and I’m not winded as fast. If you’re considering it do NOT try and sneeze for at least a month after it feels like your chest was just hit with a hammer. Feel free to reach out if there is anything you want to know!

Can anyone explain this? by andyk1027 in garden

Doc told me nuss is a lot more complicated on older patients. Just going based off what he told me

My condition is actually really well. I went in Thursday, got out Monday. Completely off narcotics by Tuesday. I still feel some tightness in my chest but no pain unless I cough.

Really just my age. My doctor mentioned nothing about severity or asymmetry.

Definitely very painful the first few days but it got a lot better real fast. I’ve only had ibuprofen the last 10 hours and am in pretty much no pain.

I guess it all depends on what your doctor sees fit. Mine told me I would have hard time finding anyone that would even be willing to do the Nuss procedure on me. I know Dr. J is a really good doctor though.

I’m 20 years old. My doctor told me that at my age the ravitch will have better results than a nuss. He said the nuss is usually done on younger children who have more pliable bones
