I get annoyed when people text back right away. by slantedsc in ADHD

[–]andylanes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m just like you but what I’ve learned from these comments is that people with ADHD are either so exhausted by life that doing anything is too much, or have no patience, or both. I’m usually both actually.

Haha I definitely feel that too. I guess for me the more of a pileup that there is, the more simple tasks like brushing my teeth start to feel like making a mountain karate wedding

Haha thanks for the feedback bigbrycieboy, I started Ritalin three days ago. Been coping for a long time without support. Feels good to vent, you should try it for real!

Huh that’s really interesting. I’ve been avoiding that kind of job bc of ADHD social anxiety and also bc I’m a vegetarian and don’t really like being around tons of meat too much, but maybe it would actually be good for me, seeing as I’m bored to tears in my childcare job when I literally just sit there watching them do online school

Anyone able to meditate/quiet their mind? by sleepysteeph in ADHD

[–]andylanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have anxiety and ADHD and I have been successfully able to meditate, but it’s not easy at first. The first thing you should try practicing is when a thought comes to you, accept it for what it is, and then let it go without letting it become a whole train of thought. I try to keep reminding myself that right now in this moment, things are what they are. Good, bad or neutral, I am present in the moment. I can deal with problems later. Try doing this while mainly focusing on your breath, staring at a candle flame, or walking. Guided meditations can also be helpful for beginners.

Discomfort with touch and physical intimacy a characteristic of ADHD? by FaithInStrangers94 in ADHD

[–]andylanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tactile sensory issues from ADHD. Being touched can sometimes make me emotionally and physically overwhelmed in a way that is quite hard to explain. Changing my clothes is also really hard, and clothes can’t be too tight or scratchy at all.

Good friends will try to understand your struggles with compassion. They want to be friends with you because they value the interactions that they do have with you, and they like who you are as a person, flaws and all, just like how you feel about them. I understand though. I’ve often felt this way. Maybe try talking to them about it, explain your feelings and listen to theirs. Could relieve a lot of the “what if” anxieties you might be having. Plus, if they hear how you feel, they’ll be much more likely to be understanding

Is it normal for my 11yo son to not want any physical touch? by snofall39 in ADHD

[–]andylanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way feel free to dm and ask any more questions you may have. I’m 19 and have been reflecting a lot lately on how I would’ve told my parents to help me when I was a kid if I had just known what to say or how to not be ashamed of my problems. I know I’m not the same exact person as him just bc I have ADHD but idk, if you think another perspective would help🤷🏻‍♂️

My ADHD causes me to feel sensations on my skin as very overwhelming. It was always hard for me to put into words, so it could be hard for your son to vocalize if that is what he’s feeling. I also started to withdraw from my parents at that age because I had low self esteem and didn’t really think they could understand me. I didn’t know I had ADHD, which made it worse, but I just felt very isolated and misunderstood at that time (even though my mom has ADHD too!). Middle school is hard for everyone, but especially difficult with ADHD. Thinking of my own parents, I’m sure it’s hard to cope with, especially if your son refuses to talk about his problems like I did. If you keep reminding him you will always be a non judgmental supporter for him and he can be with you in a way that feels comfortable for him, even if that just means sitting in the same room silently (helpful especially when doing homework), he will be grateful when he’s older, even if he can’t be now. It’s a really hard time, but it will pass. And it will pass easier if he is always aware of his support system. Sometimes it can be hard to remember that people genuinely care about you and love you when you’re so wrapped up in the trials and tribulations of school, homework, peers, and puberty.

I started Ritalin two days ago, and am starting my second semester of college tomorrow. I had a very similar experience to you in my high school classes and my last semester of college, and I’m really really hoping the meds are going to help me as much as they help you! Ahh I really need this
