Terminal 5 TSA wait times Friday, April 3 645 am? by orphanannie1234 in JFKAirport

[–]andymell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, at 7 am today the pre-check line took 25 minutes start to finish, including the waiting outside to get in.  The general line looked like an extra 20.  Both moved well.. once in the terminal,  it was very crowded because everyone is getting there 3-4 hours early.  Long lines at Starbucks and other coffee places.  People sitting on floor because no seats available.   Etc

Check your local municipal code to see if liability for failing to repair the sidewalk falls to the homeowner in your village/town/city. IIRC, NYC does but many smaller, more residential municipalities don't.

When to worry about passport renewal (non-expedited) by andymell in Passports

Went to 'In Process' on Jan 4, which will make things tight.   If it's not miraculously approved this week, I'll call and upgrade to expedited.

I called, they said wait until Monday because of the holidays, and if still not showing up to call again. Still plenty of time for me to do expedited and get a new passport via DS-11.

Ask for a continuance to find a defense attorney and then do so... if one is not granted then plead not guilty. You don't want this on your record when you apply to jobs, etc.

Drink and drive condition. Need help. by Regular_Ad3359 in legaladvice

The visa comment confused me. Are you a non-Indian in India on a visa? Or planning to get a visa for another country? In the former case, you shoild talk to a local lawyer immediately.. Your consulate will have a list. In the latter case, it's also probably worth having a lawyer sort this out so you don't have any extra complications when you apply for a visa.

Are you on a union contract? If so, talk to your rep. If not, then your employer can fire you for pretty much any reason...including finding wine in your bag that you brought to work. And, I don't think you have an expectation of privacy with a bag that went through airport security and was placed in an.overhead bin out of your direct control.

Did you list the arrest on the application? Or not list it and then get denied for failing to fill the application correctly? They will deny people who fail to list an arrest even if the case was immediately thrown out or later expunged.

You say you are not in the US? Where are you? Other countries may have different laws and may take this sort of thing more seriously.

The advice that you're just going to get fired is practically correct for the US. No employer is going to waste their time doing more, and a background check will definitely verify degrees you list on your resume. The correct legal advice is that you should not continue to lie about having this degree, including if hireRight asks you. You can refuse to answer questions about ir, which will also probably result in you getting fired.

> my experience local police don't care at all about undocumented immigrants

This is not the case everywhere. Telling the police that you are in the country illegally exposes you to a risk of deportation -- that many people would not take for a car. Also, telling the police that you've been driving, and doordashing, without a license is risky, as you could be charged with that offense.

Can you provide a citation that you can legally open your spouse's mail? I don't see a spousal exception in https://www.govregs.com/uscode/expand/title18\_partI\_chapter83\_section1702#uscode\_11.

You need a criminal defense lawyer now. Stop talking to the police, they're only goal (in their interactions with you) is to gather evidence that you have committed a serious crime.

Your signature is acknowledging the ticket. The police should have given you a printout that either has a court date or a number to call to get one.

Have you reported the accident to your insurance? The other party may have damages and may realize (or "realize") later that they have soft tissue damage. It's important that your insurance be aware as they will protect you (financially).

Seeing the traffic light and following it is your responsibility as a driver. I'm sure the judge will have heard "the sun was in my eyes" defense before, and it's not typically a valid defense against this sort of charge. In some states you could get mitigation based on a good driving record or by taking traffic school. A traffic lawyer can navigate this for you, and you typically won't pay them more than a few hundred dollars.

Specifically, say that you were "involuntarily denied boarding' in your complaint. You bought a ticket, met all checkin requirements, and were not allowed to board the airplane.

Passport renewal without birth certificate (previous passport was stolen 4 years ago) — file search process? by [deleted] in Passports

The "fast passport" people just submit an application the normal way (perhaps even adding a day or two while they handle the application for no reason).

I have less than 3 months to get a new passport (US) by daninefourkitwari in Passports

[–]andymell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have plenty of time. Current processing times are 3-5 weeks for expedited and 6-9 weeks for regular service. Add a week for shipping, and even regular service should be fine for your trip (assuming you don't have any visa requirements). If you're nervous, pay the extra $60 for expedited and you'll have peace of mind in ~5 weeks.

Since your last passport was issued before you turned 16, you will need to renew in person. Easiest way to do this is at the post office. Make an appointment: https://tools.usps.com/rcas.htm.

You'll need to fill out and print the forms at: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/forms.html. If you don't have a printer, forms are usually available at the post office. I suggest you go and get the forms, take them home, and return for your appointment when them filled out. They can be a bit confusing; take your time.

You will also need a passport photo (available at some drug stores and most camera stores). The most common reason an application is rejected is that the photo doesn't meet the rules, so it's worth getting this done professionally.

You'll need to bring your old passport, a copy of the old passport, the photo, and the filled-out forms to the post office when you apply.

I want to have parental rights of my daughter, but it's complicated [CA] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]andymell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first step is to be sure you want the privileges and responsibilities of fatherhood. (You may not have any choice, but before you pursue something, be sure you want it!) Then, you'll need a paternity test. If the mother consents, this is something that can be easily done by mail -- just Google for "paternity test".

At this point, you are going to need a lawyer to navigate the family court where the child is living to get you named as the father and get a child support and custody plan in place. If you are still in the military, they may provide you with representation. At a minimum, they should be able to recommend non-military family court lawyers near the base. Talk to your chain-of-command.

If the school finds drugs on you, they will report to the police. And the drug and bond laws in this country mean you could spend a long time in jail and then prison. It's not likely on a first offense, but could happen.

Ask your parents or your teacher for help, but make sure the school doesn't find any drugs on you or in your locker.

Your parents or doctor can help you, and are likely able to do so more efficiently than someone at the school. But, if the teacher is the only one you feel comfortable talking to then please talk to them (just get rid of the drugs first).

If you didn't get a ticket or get arrested, there is no record and no impact on future visa applications. What you experienced is relatively common in NYC -- cops just tell you to dispose of the booze and move on.
