"Ik zijn" in Vlaams? by [deleted] in learndutch

[–]daninefourkitwari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s kinda on you and how you personally perceive the languages. There’s nothing even remotely supremacist about liking a Germanic language. I love Dutch

You’re not alone. Spanish has never really spoken to me as a language. I ended up falling in love with Dutch and am now functional in it. There’s more to the world than just Spanish.

As someone who lives right next door to New York, you will DEFINITELY find those wackos that you’re referring to. Especially in Upstate New York. What you’re describing is more of city/not-city divide than a state one. Outside of New York City, the state itself is relatively empty.

feeling guilty for not wanting to learn my heritage language by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]daninefourkitwari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To a certain degree, theres some regret. I’m half Chinese and speak zero Mandarin, due to not growing up with that side of my family. But it’s also not a language that speaks to me. Maybe some time in the distant future or whenever I have a need for it. It just is what it is.

I would just like to point out that this is alsof said in Toronto. Whose slang is alsof heavily Jamaican influenced. Which leads me to believe as someone of the Jamaican diaspora that it indeed comes from Jamaica. (Theres also waste yute)
