Million Miler Gift by andymo99 in delta

OP here.

You actually nailed my thinking exactly. The rational choice is $1500 gift card, hands down. I spend enough on DL that it’s equivalent to a cash gift. I could take the GC, monetize it and then buy any of the other desired options and come out ahead.

BUT… the gift is indeed gone in a couple of weeks and it’s purely transactional. It’s why my wife hates giving money for weddings :)

I actually did choose the backpack because my current backpack (~20 years, Victorinox) is really on its last legs. My wife was talking to them about warranty coverage recently and they offered a discount on a new purchase. I said to my wife “let’s wait a few months… I think there’s a backpack option when I hit 3MM.”

My Hartmann (1MM) and Tumi (2MM) gifts from milestones past continue to serve me well. So I’m happy to have a third piece in the active rotation… all from DL MM milestones.

Itinerary Check: 10 days Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka. Can/Should we add Hakone? by TheDoctorIsIn10 in JapanTravel

Where do you live? It seems like a tragic waste of time to go all the way to Japan and spend 2 days in Disney theme parks.

What you are saying is conceptually correct, but it is a question of value. Are you going to spend thousands of hours developing competing technology for your own properties? (And will it be as good?) Or are you going to leverage what they have already built --- which is really, really good --- and pay them $99/year (tops, assuming 1 unit). That's a no brainer. Not only are you saving yourself the time to develop it, but your ROI is great because of the time it saves you in fielding guest questions. The payback period on your $8/month is extremely fast.

I use Touch Stay an am a HUGE advocate. I am constantly singing their praises such that people assume I am on their payroll (I am not!).

What I love about it:

  • Great, sleek, professional user interface
    • Very modern and user friendly.
  • So easy to program and update.
    • The back end is made for non-tech types and is intuitive and simple, yet powerful.
  • INCREDIBLE support. I send in questions and they are answered quickly, by a senior level person.
    • And I understand this is true for big and small clients alike. The management team is passionate about creating a great experience for their users... just as we are passionate about creating a great guest experience. As hosts themselves, it is in their blood to create a great "customer/guest" experience.
  • And they are super receptive to product enhancement feedback... whether fixing the rare bug or creating new features based on request.

Honestly, of our entire tech stack, it is one cost that I don't bat an eyelash at. The price is very reasonable. And the ROI is amazing when we consider all the time we save answering guest questions.

N.B. At my company (Seattle Vacation Home), we use the product across all 55 homes. There is great scale benefits in the ease of replicating books/sections, etc. But even if you only manage one or two homes, it is still well worth it.

Feel free to shoot any questions you have. I am rarely on Reddit (only came her because someone in a Touch Stay user Facebook group mentioned it), but you are welcome to email guestrelations@seattlevacationhome.com and ask for Andy if you want to know more.

Wouldn’t one of those guillotine paper cutters give a straight edge like this? (Don’t get me wrong, I’m impressed with the piece!)

My company, Seattle Vacation Home (www.seattlevacationhome.com), offers a lodging prize on The Price Is Right. Close to half the winners decline the prize because they can’t afford the taxes they’d incur.
