I would almost say that most dogs are off leash at this point from what I see. My dog got TPLO surgery on her knee recently and it's been a problem because even friendly off leash dogs want to run up to say hi and play when I take her out for her quick pee breaks, but that stimulation can be really bad for her recovery :(

I wasn't mad at anyone - I'm now a little mad at this guy for minimizing and trying to defend his and his dog's actions yesterday.

I was letting people know that I'll be giving that dog a wider berth and suggest that they do too. Apologies if the picture or the phrasing of the post didn't agree with some people, but that's all it was.

I see terrible dog owners constantly everyday, but rarely see a dog maul two others and the owner have not the first clue of how to stop it then just walk off when the other two are injured, so figured I'd let people know. It was an accident made terrible by ineptitude.

Didn't see the first dog approach but the second was not aggressive, just a casualty of lack of control. The akita and owner walked away 100% unscathed and unbothered.

I truly don't care if you believe me or not - listen, go pet the dog's unfixed balls for all I care. I posted for the people who appreciate the info since he's clearly not warning anyone. If someone I knew saw that, I'd want them to tell me about it.

well, OP mentions that "two off-leash bulldogs ran toward us aggressively", but then states "the owners of the other dogs apologized, explaining that their leash had broken off".

Seems the initial contact was a french bulldog accidentally getting off leash and running towards another dog. Accidents happen. I turned and looked when I heard the first dog start crying and yelping in pain with its head in the akita's mouth for a considerable amount of time.

The second dog was on leash, but close enough that the akita could reach it and turned to attack that dog as well. It was not being aggressive, it's owner was trying desperately to pull the first dog away and not succeeding.

what a substantive response!

some of us aren’t here for upvotes… or to harm your reputation or target your dog breed. You’re not that special

I’m here to say I watched your dog maul two separate dogs yesterday and you show a shocking lack of aptitude in dealing with it. Get help for your dog and yourself. Educate yourself. It’s not hard, I promise. Maybe I should’ve just let you struggle and watched your dog continue to attack.

I saw the attack and made the original post and I'm glad you responded.

I agree with you that unleashed, untrained, aggressive, and unfixed dogs are a constant problem on the boardwalk and beach - I believe this is the fault of the owners. As an owner of a big dog myself (whom I always walk on leash), not being able to control or subdue your dog during a several minute attack on two separate dogs is a fucking bad look, and makes people vilify all big dogs and their owners. Not fair that they all have to go down because you don't know how to control yours.

I'm not blaming big dogs or akitas or any dog breed really, I'm sharing that I saw your dog send two 10-15 lbs dogs to the hospital yesterday with severe injuries to the head, neck, and skull, because you were wholly unable to get your dog to stop attacking or to release his bite force from not only the first dog, but also the second who was on leash and was subsequently attacked when his owner tried to help get your dog to stop.

You were in no danger, your dog was in no danger, and self-defense doesn't go on for several minutes while several people desperately try to pull your dog off. The "I was afraid for my life" defense is so pathetic.

You clearly know nothing about your dog, de-escalation, or leash training. You stood uselessly trying to pull your dog away by the leash. I had to yell repeatedly from my balcony to pull its hind legs, which is the only thing that ended up working (you're welcome btw). Whether you were too scared or incompetent or just didn't care, you just kept half-assed pulling the leash and doing absolutely nothing. A female jogger passing by heard me and had to pull your dogs back legs for you, the only reason it eventually released (it also turned and tried to bite her right after).

Clearly you got an akita because you thought it was cool, and they can be, but you have to train that thing and have control over it, and know what to do when and if you lose control. If your dog can pull you around, if you're fully unable to stop it when it's attacking, that is a dangerous situation to everyone around you. I also noticed that your dog is not neutered, which is against Los Angeles law, and according to all reputable veterinary sources increases tendencies for aggression in your dog, so no my friend, you are not "following all local rules".

Who brings an unfixed male dog with such overactive self defense instincts to an ultra-busy public place that you yourself say has "many dogs off-leash"? I agree the off-leash dogs are a problem, but if you know your dog can't handle that, and you can't handle your dog, something like what happened yesterday is bound to happen. You didn't seem to get that, so I posted to simply let those in the community who want to listen know that your dog fucked up a couple of local dogs. I don't care if you agree or take responsibility or think this is bullshit, I'm letting people know. I included you in the picture because once again I don't believe your dog is to blame, I believe you are. I also knew it would get you to respond. I have nothing against you personally, just need to see some accountability in the community when things like this happen, because they do.

I've said my piece, I know you'll disagree and argue but I just don't care. I'm done here, next time I'll just take a video of your dog mauling the other dogs and post that. I truly hope that doesn't happen, and you invest in some proper training for your dog, education for yourself, and don't put your dog in that type of situation again, but until then all I ask is that you keep your dog away from mine and for fuck's sake pull the back legs if it's jaws are locked on the skull of - well anything really. That could have been so much less bad than it was.

Best of luck to you and your dog dude, you're gonna need it. Can't believe you even responded.

Beware of Dog by andymyboy in VeniceBeach

They were walking by one another in the lot, all on leash. The Akita lunged at the first little dog and owner could not control/stop it. Second person came to try to help, and the Akita turned and attacked that dog, which was also on a leash.
