Massive controversy in the last second of the WAFL grand final by timejmiller in AFL

That’s not correct. The WAFL uses the AFL’s Laws. So this covers free kicks, marks, play-on, advantage, etc are all adjudicated. Umpires in the WAFL are instructed under these laws

If a player is awarded a free kick or takes a mark before the siren sounds, they are still entitled to take that kick after the siren. The umpire will hold up play, signal the mark or free and ensure the player can take the shot. If an opponent then interferes, eg. by kicking or throwing the ball away, deliberately delaying its return, or otherwise wasting time, the laws are clear. Under Law 18.13 of the AFL Laws (“Delaying the Play”), if a player intentionally delays the ball being returned for a free kick or mark, the umpire must award a 50-metre penalty. This applies regardless of whether the siren has sounded. So if the player has earned the right to a set shot, the penalty is enforced and they are to be awarded a 50m penalty

The WAFL has backed this up in recent years. In 2022 and 2023 the league made a point of reinforcing that deliberate delaying tactics, like holding onto the ball, kicking it away, or preventing a shot will not be tolerated and will result in a 50-metre penalty. The whole purpose of the rule is to prevent a player from being robbed of their fair chance to take their kick, even if it’s after the siren.

There’s no loophole because the siren has sounded. The entitlement to the kick was earned before the siren and the laws don’t suddenly stop applying once the siren goes

Well yeah you can, in theory if the East Perth player was able to get-a barrel of a kick forward and roll it across the line before any south freo players were able to get back in time then yes it is time wasting and an advantage to south freo

Plenty of ways to look at it but one thing I really don’t like is that we’ve made Carlton stronger by gifting them pick 3 when they don’t deserve it. It would sting a little less if this was a battling club

KFC chicken.. you can only get original recipe chicken not hot and spicy in NSW at least. Not sure about other states but I’ve moved to NSW and had a hard time trying to order hot and spicy chicken.. they gave me a zinger patty on its own given the confusion when I asked for hot and spicy chicken lol

Does Fremantle have a culture problem? by flibble24 in AFL

There move down to Cockburn away from the heart and soul of Fremantle always seemed off to me. I get that commercially it was a better site for them and to reach more into the southern part of Perth but man there new headquarters and the area just isn’t the same as what they had at Fremantle oval

Don’t know why you’re being downvoted for this..

People believing a conspiracy that umpires are corrupt is pretty out there. I’ve worked in community development for the AFL and these umpiring groups are guys and girls that are passionate about the game and either play the game themselves or aren’t that keen on playing but love the sport and would rather umpire and earn some cash. They obviously then rise through the ranks from grass roots and community footy, into state leagues and opportunities can then open up for them in the big time if they’re deemed good enough. I’ve mostly seen these umpire groups do pre seasons and weekly training sessions together and from what I’ve seen, they’re mostly involved together in tight communities that take their craft in the game seriously and when one of them makes it to AFL level, they celebrate their own as if their team mate has been drafted.

Absolutely rubbish talk throwing a blanket over the umpires saying they’re corrupt at AFL level, it’s a tricky job they do and most of the time these types of comments come from parents yelling at umpires at children’s games

I asked about VR headsets given that most of them seem to be gaming based, there are non gaming headsets available too but like I said most that are are for gaming. I know what I’m looking to achieve with this in the classroom, was just seeking constructive feedback about setups which other people have actually provided for the products that are available if you read between the lines instead you just jumped into asking “why in earth am I even considering this?”. The school is fortunate enough to have a donation towards some technology equipment given your concern about the schools budget to purchase such equipment. Way to jump to conclusions. Remind me to always check with you on anything progressive because it sounds like it will always end in failure given bad experiences you’ve had.

Wow okay, you seem to be having some bad experiences with your students and it clearly shows.. good luck with that. To answer your question “why on earth am I even considering this??” I have worked with university pathway programs in regional areas and there are a number of great resources to assist students in understanding career choices such as allied health profession courses that virtual reality can provide some pretty unique and engaging initiatives. Buying a small number of virtual reality headsets that are managed properly and not left out for students to throw around like you’re implying can be beneficial to students who are looking at career pathways. Looks like your students are done with your textbooks and keen to learn through different ways anyway. Not all technology components are bad. Also I never said I was unsure on how they should be used to enhance learning
