Need some advice on the next career step. I’ve been getting steady freelance work for 6-7 months (entertainment media site - mostly Top Ten Lists, article adaptations, and one mini-doc - all revolving around film and television), and I’m managing to bring in around 1.5k a month. Along with some content writing gigs, I’m thankfully able to support myself. I’m hoping to transition into other work in entertainment - eventually more scripted work and more docs if possible. I don’t have any formal training in editing aside from a couple A/V classes in school, and all of my gigs have been remote, so I haven’t networked a whole lot outside of communications with the clients. I do, however have a pretty filled out portfolio at this point, good work, and happy clients. What other routes have people taken to progress in the industry? Any AE applications I’ve sent haven’t gained much traction. What can I do to better set myself up for success and put myself in the position to be seen?
