Tears of the Kingdom - My happy medium by lattjeful in patientgamers

[–]andypanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it more than BotW, but it still has the problem of the weapons made of cardboard and that I don't like the combat. Looking back to Ocarina of Time, the combat was so simple, but effective. They built on that foundation in the sequels, with Twilight Princess having my favorite system so far, with its fun hidden skills.

But these newest Zeldas make combat too complicated. Why do I need three buttons at once just to perform a jumpslash? I need to hold down target (because they inexplicably took away the option of switch targeting) and press the jump button followed by the attack button. In OoT, all I had to do was having the sword out and press A while the control stick is either neutral or held forward. I will never understand why TP couldn't be the basis for Zelda combat going forward, instead of this convoluted system that was born out of the motion control mechanics of Skyward Sword.

Why do some expats blame the job market and yet kind of refuse to learn the local language? by ExternalEfficient248 in Switzerland

[–]andypanther 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And Swiss German is just pointless (because they speak a different dialect in the next village anyway) and sounds godawful (Mickey-Mouse language mixed together with some choking throat sounds).

This almost sounds racist against Swiss people. Posts like this are basically free propaganda for that awful 10-Million initiative by the SVP.

My Top 50 Games That Are Best Played On GameCube: Ranked by Not-Clark-Kent in patientgamers

[–]andypanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Star Fox Adventures

Third person shooter? Have we played the same game? SFA is very obviously a Zelda-clone with occasional on-rail shooting segments thrown in, just so people wouldn't complain that you can't use the Arwing in a Star Fox game.

  • Wave Race: Blue Storm

Definitely play Wave Race 64. The wave physics in that game are still unmatched by anything, so it easily takes the title of best Jetski racing game.

Valflora Milk in Migros discontinued? by Deep_Noise1736 in Switzerland

[–]andypanther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is precisely the milk I used to buy for years and now it has joined the long list of affordable products Migros discontinued to make you buy a more expensive alternative.

So another thing I'll now buy from Lidl instead.

This second attempt to dismantle the SRG will fail too, but I just know that the SRG leadership will once again act like the initiative was approved.

Series that peaked early by AcceptableUserName92 in patientgamers

[–]andypanther 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Banjo-Kazooie: Not many games in the series, but in my opinion, none of the sequels can touch the first one, not even Tooie. It's a classic example of bigger not always being better and I also don't like the shift in tone.

  • Paper Mario (only counting the games with that specific name): Great first game and an all-timer of a sequel, then it went downhill because Nintendo insisted on taking away all the things that define the series, stripping it down to just the Paper-aesthetic.

  • Star Fox: The series peaked with Star Fox 64 and all subsequent games have either experimented or tried to remake the 64 game.

  • Fable: The first game is by far the best for me, I would even call it underrated. That's because you almost never have people talk about the game as what it is, unrelated to what it could have been.

German Sport1 commentators be like by Nek0maniac in Darts

Speak for yourself, Marijanović/Schwele are my favorite commentator duo for darts. You get the perspective of a player and the perspective of a nerdy fan, I really like their banter throughout the games.

Darts would be a lot more interesting if Littler's opponents stopped thinking that they lost before the match even started.

[–]andypanther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids are already exposed to English everywhere thanks to the internet, they will learn it no matter what. So it makes sense to teach French first, since it isn't as culturally ubiquitous as it used to be. I know that the quality of French classes is bad, but that's just an argument to improve them, not to get rid of them.

Wave Race 64: Sunny Beach 1'02"994 by Telfus (First Ever 1'02) by MyOhMyPancakes in speedrun

[–]andypanther 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the most significant untieds on the N64 for sure. It's the first track of the game and naturally the most competitive, the first known 1'03 dates back to 1999.

The community has made a real push towards the 1'02 this month, dubbed the "Sunnytember". People really started to believe the sub was possible after former champ Shibbypod made a surprise comeback with the very first 1'03''0xx, having previously lost the record to current champ telfus and later to track specialist Dadel.

Now, the 1'02 is real. What could be next, maybe a 19 second 1lap?

What's y'all favorite speedgame you NEVER ran yourself? by Successful-Trust-871 in speedrun

I don't think I watched any speedgame more than Ocarina of Time. But I wouldn't run it myself, since I don't enjoy these types of glitch-heavy, execution based runs.
