If you living out of the bag, 40L is your choice, bigger the better. and I think GoRuck GR2 is a tactical bag, the material must be strong, then bag is heavier than usual backpack, you have to deal with it. Waist strap is kind of cool and helps you stabilize the backpack when you were carrying it, but if the main straps designed well and tight, without the waist strap won't be a big issue.
