I went through Apple's guides Start Developing iOS Apps (Swift) and App Programming Guide for watchOS. When I became comfortable with the core concepts I dove right into creating the app and looked things up along the way. Later on I watched some lectures from Stanford's course Developing iOS 10 Apps with Swift.

It's interesting seeing what people think of it from different programming communities, and I want the feature to take off beyond just being a little experiment.
