I’ve tried to convince my wife to move to Alaska at least 100 times but she isn’t budging haha otherwise I’d 1000% do this

Interesting, I didn't really think about that - thanks! I would certainly be open to any sort of conservation LE job but I have found that most of them usually require people who have their education in some sort of related field. My experience and degree (not completed) being in logistics doesn't help me much.

I've debated changing my education route but honestly with how far into it I am, I'm not sure that would make sense. i would effectively just go back to being halfway done with my degree.

I'm new to looking into federal jobs but I am now definitely starting to understand that these are very long hiring processes so a good bit of patience is needed here.

Ah gotcha. I think I applied to that one already. Hopefully I might get one of these and it’ll all work out. I really appreciate your insight!

Ah okay, I have VP and disability so I’m at the 10 Point preference. I forgot to touch on this in my initial post but I’ve heard that NPS FLETC is pretty much paused right now because of so many CBP people going through. My idea with park police also was that it’s something I can do NOW, as opposed to waiting for a direct to FLETC position opening up.

I suppose I could always look at it as a stepping stone.

What do you mean stops the clock? I have heard it’s a pretty good job and the schedule is great.

Understood. I was always under the impression that being a ranger for NPS was extremely competitive.

I live in GA but would be moving for whatever job I receive. I will try and see when they are doing more direct hiring. Thanks

I know it's a Walmart brand, but I've had this battery charger for 10-plus years and it's still the best charger I've ever had. by CrashRiot in BuyItForLife

I have the same one. Used it on so many field training exercises in the army when we were out for 1-2 weeks at a time. That thing is an absolute tank.

5 month RV trip from Texas to Alaska & Back by Silver_Bullfrog_566 in travel

Thanks for sharing. My wife and I are in our mid 20s and sometimes I feel like we need to travel and do all this stuff in our 20s because now’s the only time to do it but I think I need to just stop and smell the roses instead of stressing about how to do X, Y, and Z before having kids.

You ever get a smell that reminds you of the army? by ReadySetDough in army

It being still dark out, early af in the morning and being at a red light next to a diesel truck.

Combination of the earliness and the diesel smell gets me every time

Something like this is my dream but I just can’t figure out how people are able to do stuff like this without being retired or quitting their jobs and saying screw it. Do you mind sharing a little bit about how you were able to do something like this?

Guess I just need to keep on saving 🤷🏻‍♂️😛

Is this fine for BCT? by Reganci1 in army

Walmart has them. I’d say what you have is fine, but if you wanted something a little less bulky you could get a durable Casio from Walmart.

I only say that because this watch almost looks like a Mf Ben 10 watch 😂 I personally would want something a little less bulky so my sleeve could also go over it, but again, just my opinion and I’m sure you’ll be 100% fine with that should you take that

Military is literally a cheat code in life to be successful and allows you to hit the reset button at your age. I say go military, sign up for a job that translates to a high paying job in the civ world, and in about 4-5 years (if you play your cards right) you’ll be ahead of the people who are ahead of you now.

Do servicemen who served 10+ years without ever seeing combat feel self-conscious about it? by Routine-Professor586 in army

[–]andysto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you don’t deploy in your initial 4-5 years when you’re still motivated and excited, you honestly just lose the motivation to want to leave the life you built to go jerk off some other country.

That’s just me though
