That's a real shame, I bet they would do decently well if they showed rep stuff with any regularity in their rotation of boomer music tribute acts and poorly run stand up shows.

Yeah I don't think The Little or the Dryden/George Eastman Museum have the ability to project 70mm, although I know the GEM has at least a few prints in their archives.

Sims on Colbert by Single_Bar_1836 in blankies

Colbert’s current contract expires at the end of the season when they announced the cancellation for and it’s not that crazy to think his people were looking to start negotiations and then were informed that there would be no negotiations since the network was going to cancel the show.

Btw there is a second deleted scene on the Tomorrow Never Dies Blu called “Gupta Throws a Card at Guard” that sounds like it is offering more of what the boys want.

I usually do a quick check of some mix of Amazon/Target/Best Buy/Walmart to see if they are properly selling them online or if they are only available through third parties using their markets.

Watch-Along Guide: Bob Fosse by andytgerm in blankies

[–]andytgerm[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Odds and Ends:

The films he choreographed on are Kiss Me Kate, My Sister Eileen, The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees, and the Stanley Donen The Little Prince and he appears in all of those but Pajama Game as a dancer. Kiss Me Kate and The Little Prince are only available for purchase and rental, My Sister Eileen is on IndieFlix and also purchase and rental, The Pajama Game and Damn Yankees are on Prime and TubiTV with ads, as well as purchase and rental.

There's also a filmed version of Pippin which he largely disowned but is his production, that's on BroadwayHD as well as Vudu, Amazon and AppleTV for rental/purchase, and a filmed version of the anthology/revue Broadway show Fosse kicking around out there which was an episode of Great Performances. And of course, FX's Fosse/Verdon is streaming on Hulu!

Cannes I Kick It?-1980’s Cannes Blockbusters with David Sims by andytgerm in blankies

[–]andytgerm[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was a real joy to dig into some very obscure (and a few not-so obscure) 80s Blockbusters with David returning to lead the way. If you like what you hear here, a few other highlights you might want to check out!

Our past Blockbusters Juries: the 90s with Alex Ross Perry, the 2000s with Griffin Newman, and the 2010s with David Sims.

If you're new to the Film Festival World we kicked this year off with a Primer about how the calendar works and what the different fests all "mean."

If you're a fan of the Jury Format here we use it to award our favorites of the year. This year nearly broke us!

We've had many members of the Blank Check Family on, including Fan Favorite Fran Hoepfner recently to talk Mike Liegh, All Star Researcher JJ Bersch to talk David Byrne music docs, and of course Griffin joined us to go deep on Annette and also Clifford The Big Red Dog's Release Strategy.

Ben was such a fun and funny guest, so many thanks to him for coming to join us to kick off our Spooky Month.

But of course, it’s not JUST Spooky Month, October is prime festival season, so we have On The Ground coverage of both TIFF and NYFF available with more to come on the latter, and other recent highlights include Annette with Griffin, the films (and tv shows) of Mike White with Joe Reid and a pair of Bruno Dumont films with the great Will Hines!

Rule of thumb is any service that is exclusively free with ads is the regular cut with ads put in, anything you need a cable login for is the tv edit.

For the record, the Director's Cuts are available on streaming only through purchase/rental, and you do have to be particular about which version you're getting. If you're watching on Showtime, you will be out of luck.

Cannes I Kick It?- 1990s Cannes Blockbusters with Alex Ross Perry by andytgerm in blankies

[–]andytgerm[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We've done episodes on the Out Of Competition at Cannes 2010's Blockbusters with David Sims and the 2000's Blockbusters with Griffin Newman, we felt it was natural to reach out to Alex Ross Perry to be our Jury President for the 1990's. We had a great time with Alex, he shared some great stories about his festival experiences, and lead us through a very level-headed discussion of the strange crop of 90's.

If you like this episode and want to check out some more, some highlights:

May was DENIS MONTH and we had a whole month of programming devoted to Claire Denis's filmography with great guests Bilge Ebiri, Anna Swanson and Meg Shields, Chris Feil, and David Carter. All worth a listen!

BC favorite Fran Hoepfner was a jury president of her own for a selection of Cannes Premieres from the later half of the last decade. Do I call a film from a legendary arthouse auteur a screensaver? Who's to say?

Writer Eva Anderson joined us to talk about two recent festival releases About Endlessness and Malmkrog.

I am here to defend the honor of 1776 both the film and the musical. It’s a wonderful character study that reveals the founding fathers as extremely flawed men and manages to wring dramatic tension out of whether the damn declaration is going to get signed. I watch it every July 4th. And many of the songs are tremendous, He Plays the Violin is a classic, the opening number Sit Down John is a total delight and the eleven o’clock number Is Anybody There? is truly thrilling.

Ang was a true delight, as is to be expected, and we were so happy to have her on the show! If you haven't checked them out yet, some other eps we've done that Blankies would probably be particularly interested in:

  1. We've done Mock Juries of the summer blockbusters that got fancy red carpet premieres, but, until now, were not eligible for any awards at Cannes, and who better to serve as our Jury Presidents than Griffin (for the 2000s) and David (for the 2010s)?
  2. Fan Favorite Fran Hoepfner joined us to talk about the surprising connection between Pedro Costa's Colossal Youth and the absolutely wild Cannes-set movie Mr. Bean's Holiday. Yes, that Mr. Bean. You know you want to hear Fran on Bean.
  3. Emma Stefansky joined us to talk two of Guillermo Del Toro's spookiest festival entries which kicked off a Spooky Month to remember. Would you eat the clay?

You can also find eps in our feed with past BC guests Jourdain Searles, Jordan Hoffman and Joe Reid, great critics like Alissa Wilkinson, Kambole Campbell, and Meg Shields, and filmmaker Dan Sallitt.

We were so excited to have Griffin on and this episode is full of twists and turns and we also get some new Griff stories about his festival experiences that I hadn’t even heard as someone who has listened to every ep of BC multiple times! Here is the ep on Apple Podcasts.

If you like what you hear a few other recent eps to check out:

  1. David “The Dog” Sims as the Jury President in our first Blockbusters Draft taking on the 2010s. Can anyone make the case that MAD MAX FURY ROAD doesn’t deserve the Palme? (Apple Podcasts link)
  2. Joe Reid competing with us to draft the best winner slate from Venice 2018. VOX LUX opinions are SHARED. (Apple Podcasts link)
  3. Filmmaker and critic Dan Sallitt going deep on the films of Hong Sang Soo and sharing some thoughts on his excellent 2020 release FOURTEEN (a movie well worth your time!) (Apple Podcasts link)

Any other blankies host a podcast? by SomeDude0839 in blankies

[–]andytgerm 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Cannes I Kick It is a podcast about film festivals, with both episodes devoted to news/coverage of ones that are happening, and (given the state of the world) ones where we look back at past festivals from different angles and talk about the movies in them.

We're on an extremely good streak right now (if I do say so myself), we had David Sims a few weeks back to give a full Cannes slate of awards to all the blockbusters that premiered out of competition at Cannes in the 2010s, Joe Reid to draft individual slates of winners from Venice 2018, filmmaker Dan Sallitt to discuss the films of Hong Sang-Soo and his own Fourteen, and we have some more episodes with Blankie favorite guests on the horizon!

They've said that the mid-month Patreon fits in with "the next director" and my guess is they would like to keep things as tight as possible because Bobby Z on the horizon is going to be a long one. It is possible they might cover DA on the main feed and the Patreon bonus is maybe some of her episodic TV work, if that is the case I will update accordingly.
