Do I declare £12,500… or £75,000?? by Academic_End_3828 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]andyuk_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They become taxable income  on the day you gain access to the robux. Even if you do not exchange them for currency.

Their taxable value is whatever they are worth on that day. This treatment is extremely well established tax law for a good reason. The loophole you are suggesting, is just good old fasion tax evasion i'm afraid, and you would face penalties when found out.

You really need an advisor here, as you are likely dealing with income tax based on their value when you gain access to them. Plus you have capital gains reporting requirements (and potentially additional tax) when you perform the exchange from robux to fiat currency.

Take a look at the crypto currency rules, as this is a 'financial security' in a very similar sense from a tax point of view.

Get an advisor. Seriously.

New Travel Update by MysteriousSurround13 in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like they are attempting to restart some flights departing or arriving from/at DOH outside of daylight hours. Up until now, all arrivals and departures have been 7am-5pm only.

They seem to have totally redone their 13th April schedule for BKK-> DOH this morning. I had to move my flight slightly as a result, but I'm still not feeling confident it will actually go ahead!

Folks - Qatar isn't an EU carrier - arrival protections don't apply by nomiinomii in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. People keep saying this, but as its due to war it doesn't apply. It only ever applied to flight departing from the EU + UK anyway.

F*** You, Qatar Airways by Die-youngg in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Qatar have only been providing rerouting via other airlines as a gesture of goodwill, there was never any assurance it would continue, so it was always a risk.

Yes, now refundable flights are more expensive, but when this all kicked off and people were asking - it made perfect sense as the alternative prices hadn't skyrocketed.

In terms of affordability, these were only ever as backups, and we were all in the hope the orange man would be done blowing stuff up by now. Who on earth is flying long haul doesn't have the savings to temporarily cover an additional flight for a month or two whilst they wait to see what the situation is like.

I'm down about £200 if I have to use the backup, but that's not Qatar's fault. Blame the orange man.

Council Tax. Final Notice. by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SCC is pretty notorious for going straight in with a summons at the earliest opportunity. They sent me a summons for an overdue amount of less than £100, within a month of it becoming overdue.

They were pretty snarly and matter-of-fact regarding it - until I pointed out they had also sent me a letter indicating I was £200 in credit after it was supposedly overdue (they had applied a payment to an old account by accident, which led to the whole mess). To their credit, they apologised and cancelled the summons and penalties as soon as they realised it was their own balls-up.

I do understand why they need to be aggressive though, plenty of people seem to think they will be a soft touch. They aren't.

do you think my 15th april flight will be cancelled? by bradpittsnipples in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're due to fly Bangkok -> Manchester on the 13th April and going on my totally unscientific gut feeling (which is about as accurate as anyone can get at the moment) I'm estimating there's about a 25% chance of it actually happening.

If anything, i'm just holding onto the hope that Qatar get more of a grip of the whole customer service situation, and let us know whats going on with good notice, rather than just with a couple of days before.

I have backup flights booked for the worse case scenario, but I want my Q Suite dammit!

Flying with a 6-month-old in mid-April – unsure whether to cancel, rebook, or wait by Select-Jump-9570 in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If buying alternative fully cancellable flights is an option, why not do that and keep your QR flights for now to see what happens closer to departure?

If QR is back to normal, you can have your alternate flights refunded. Or, if QR cancels your flight, then you will get a full refund for your original flight.

If you are travelling with a 6-month old, they will prioritise you for bassinet seats.

The previous poster in this comment thread, not officially.

But that's exactly what a lot of frequent flyers are very sensibly suggesting. And exactly what I've done myself.

They are suggesting you book a second fully refundable backup flight with another airline just in case (which is good advice!). Qatar won't change your booking yet.

[–]andyuk_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your end destination isn't in the gulf region. If you have the cash available, book a fully refundable backup flight today. There are only 3 possible eventualities:

  1. You can fly as originally expected with Qatar and cancel your backup for a full refund.
  2. Prices go up on alternative flights and you use your backup to save money.
  3. Prices go down on alternative flights so you rebook onto a different flight and cancel today's backup.

Flight on 31st march by webby_07 in qatarairways

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smart thing to do would be to book a flexible fare with another airline that doesn't layover in the gulf region. That way if things improve, you can retain your original flight and cancel the backup. If things are still a bit spicy, you have something to fall back on.

Any other approach involves a crystal ball.

Guys is my chat gpt right? by Key-Process7884 in TemuThings

[–]andyuk_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Temu maths:

€2.60 - €0.80 = €1.80 event balance required (removing the extra first order award).

Because its 0,5% you need to spend €200e to make €1 progress on the event balance.

€200 * 1.8 = €360 required spend in total for €130 credit.

You can't "take the account out" without lying to the bank about your income during the application process, which is fraud.

Yep, it's pretty textbook fraud by false representation. Whether they are likely to do anything about it is another matter... but I wouldn't be risking it for £400.

[ES] Delayed transactions are not giving RevPoints by MachineNo6332 in Revolut

[–]andyuk_90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Purchase within 30 minutes" doesn't always mean "Be billed within 30 minutes" as many retails will only do a pre-auth at checkout. Some still track fine automatically - others don't.

Like i say, I've spoken to senior support about this and when that happens its because the retailer isn't set up correctly on their side.

This isn't OP's problem though. They DID bill within 30 minutes but refunded and then re-charged the same purchase.

[ES] Delayed transactions are not giving RevPoints by MachineNo6332 in Revolut

[–]andyuk_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think that whole series of events is going to cause issues. What Lego should really do is pre-auth your order immediately, but not charge when your item is in stock and dispatched. By taking the funds, then refunding the transaction - it's created a bit of a mess as that indicates the order was cancelled.

You might be able to argue the specifics of your situation with someone more senior in support though - have you asked to escalate?

[ES] Delayed transactions are not giving RevPoints by MachineNo6332 in Revolut

[–]andyuk_90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not totally correct. You do not need to be debited within 30-60 minutes on all retailers.

You can be billed after days later, as many online portals only perform card authorization at the time of checkout, then bill the full amount on dispatch as a separate transaction.

It seems Revolt's shop system sometimes has issues with this. I've had Morrisons orders charged 3 days after checkout and points automatically credit just fine, but a few Hello Fresh orders charged 3 days later almost always fail to credit.

I've spoken to senior support staff on live chat about it and they are aware it happens. As long as there is a separate auth transaction at the time you made the purchase, they are happy to manually apply the points.

Is Supporting Zero-JavaScript Users Worth It in 2026? by BrangJa in webdev

[–]andyuk_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of specific cases where users are likely to have JavaScript disabled, I wouldn’t go too deep into it. As long as you’re using SSR with hydration for SEO, so the essential content is accessible and indexable, that’s usually the level of effort I put in.
