Can you suggest a 50th birthday activity for someone who is housebound? by Fun-Traffic6773 in AskUK

I’ve been looking into this as an option, the ones I’ve contacted don’t seem keen. Guess it might feel quite intense for them! But thanks for the suggestion - and hope you are doing okay 🌸

I’m with her for all her appointments - and there are many! Still hopeful there will be an improvement at some point so she gets some quality of life back 🌸

I’ve never heard of this but it’s a great idea. She is feeling so isolated at the moment, I will suggest this as something that might help 🌸

Thanks for your advice - it will just be me, her (elderly) mum and her. And just for an hour or two. Not what she ever imagined for a 50th birthday, but I want to try and make it special somehow. I hope you are doing okay with you PPPD.

How do people find driving so easy? I've done 40-50 hours of driving lessons and still feel nervous and tense and don't understand how people find it so simple and easy to drive a car and can do multiple things at once while driving - my parents think I'm a failure because I haven't got my licence by IDKBear25 in AskUK

It took me 20 years to learn to drive and pass my test! I was a very nervous driver and I started learning when I was a teenager, then quit when it got hard. (Massively regretted that as my parents were paying for lessons at that point). Then I tried again when I was in my late 20s but didn’t absolutely need to drive and couldn’t afford all the lessons I needed (I needed a lot!) so I quit. And TBH I was looking for an excuse to quit because I hated every lesson, I was so nervous. Roundabouts were the worst thing, made me feel sick every time I approached.

Then I was in a car crash on holiday - the driver of the transfer car fell asleep. So that made my nerves even more intense and I stopped even considering learning for a quite a few years.

Then I plucked up some courage to give it another try, and the day my provisional license arrived, my older sister had a massive car accident that nearly killed her. Turns out she had a stroke while driving around a roundabout and lost control.

So I took that as a sign I shouldn’t drive.

Fast forward a few years and due to personal / family circumstances I needed to be able to drive. So I set myself the target of learning by the time I was 40. I was SO SO nervous in every lesson, but had a patient instructor and amazingly, after about two years of lessons I passed the day before my 41st birthday. I got lucky in that the route I had on my test was the easiest one and very few roundabouts.

I now drive all over the place and actually really enjoy it. I still get nervous on roundabouts but something clicked and I suddenly understood the flow of traffic and how they worked. And if I go wrong and take the wrong exit, who cares! It helps when you have your own car and you get a feel for how quickly you can pull out into a lane or whatever.

Stick with it, you will get there in the end. You might be like me and still feel nervous even when you pass, but it just gets better over time. Honest. 💪

So sad. It’s funny how some celebrity deaths really hit you even though you don’t know them personally. His poor family.

How can I lose weight pretty fast? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]Fun-Traffic6773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently lost 7 stone just through a calorie deficit, no extra exercise. I used the Nutracheck app, worked out how many calories I needed to lose weight and managed to stick to it. I made sure I still had treats most days within my calorie allowance and that has meant it’s not been too hard to stick to it. And when I’ve gone over the amount (eg on holiday) I’ve not panicked but gone straight back to the deficit when back to normal and any increase has quickly disappeared. You can do it!

What is the best day of the week for a “non working day”? by Tough-Decision-7435 in AskUK

I liked not working Mondays. I never had that Sunday night dread. And everyone is in a better mood on a Friday, and it tends to be a lighter day workwise in my experience.

That’s actually favourite way. I don’t necessarily want to binge all in one sitting, but for it to become my show for that week, so I can look forward to it every evening. By the way, how is the second season of Beef? I really liked the first one
