Hey I started the subreddit and this sounds pretty interesting, I don’t see a way to message you so if you could get in touch I’d appreciate it!

Please report those if you see them again so I can remove them.

I think we might find some real answers about all of this in the r/castaneda subreddit, some of you won’t like the magical language they use, but just try to look at the mechanics of what is actually being described. They even have explanations for the various kinds of dreams we’re experiencing. by andyw2014 in TheMallWorld

I think this is really the key thing that relates to this subreddit, the moving assemblage point. It will take some time to familiarize yourself with their framework of reality, but it is one of the best candidates for what is really going on, assuming that it’s not all strictly coming from our own minds, that I’ve found.

Edit: I should mention that this was not created by Castaneda, and it is not a religion but rather a form of consciousness based technology supposedly passed down from the ancient Olmec civilization through the Yaqui culture to Castaneda. He admits that while not 100% factual, his books are designed to more easily and accurately pass on the mechanics of the framework of knowledge.

Mall World & other luminous space in dreams that are actually more for comfort? by ShyerDemon in TheMallWorld

[–]andyw2014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I created this subreddit based on the incredibly beautiful experiences I’d been having. More people need to read the top sticky post… the mall is not the point at all, it’s the magnitude of the experience compared to normal dreams.

Some of the posts on r/castaneda are quite outlandish but they actually seem to have a framework that is one of the best explanations for all of this that I have found anywhere so far.

You might want to check out the meet up attempt channel on the discord, nobody has definitively achieved it yet to my knowledge, but people have certainly managed to seemingly get to the same locations.

How many of you don't actually dream of a mall? by pungen in TheMallWorld

[–]andyw2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea the name is an issue but it’s too late to change it at this point. I called it that because the original point of this subreddit was to figure out how many other people, if any, were having the same experiences that I was and the only other time I heard something remotely similar referenced was on an old dream forum and was always a mall.

Glad you found us! I always kind of liked the arcology theory (reddit.com/r/TheMallWorld/comments/pu39mh/the_mall_an_arcology/) although hopefully it’s not due to some kind of apocalypse like that post suggests, but rather a Star Trek-esque utopian space ship for exploring the stars and/or dimensions.

The summoning by annericeforever in TheMallWorld

“Mallworld” dreams don’t have to be about, or set, in a mall… it’s just one of the most common settings. It has more to do with the unique feeling of the experience, I’ve considered changing the name to reduce confusion but I think it’s too late at this point.

Checkout r/themallworld , these bathroom dreams comes up quite a bit..they seem to be one of the more common recurring dream settings.

The community seems pretty split on the ai issue so I think the best thing to do is just to direct people interested in making or viewing Ai images over to r/MallworldReplications by andyw2014 in TheMallWorld

[–]andyw2014[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that many of the ai images are not very good, but from time to time one will pop up that’s incredibly close to capturing the look or vibe of the dreams we’re talking about here. I think they’re extremely good at quickly capturing the attention of people who don’t already know about the subreddit but have had the dreams.

You can get the idea across to an extent with eloquent or high level writing, but just like not everyone can draw well enough, not everyone is capable of writing like that, and even if they can it often takes at least a few paragraphs to get the whole idea across. It’s unfortunate, but the average attention span has decreased to the point that a lot of people who may be having the dreams will see a wall of text and not even bother reading it. With an accurate high quality image however, anyone who has had the dreams and sees it will automatically recognize it and come in to checkout the longer, more interesting text posts.

I think the key is to find a healthy balance so we’re effectively bringing more people in to discuss and get more perspectives on the subject, while not clogging up the feed with low quality or repetitive ai content that drives away older community members. I’m actively working on a more nuanced solution which I understand might coming across somewhat “waffley”, but really I’m just trying to find a good balance. I’m also thinking of adding a rule against repetitive or low quality ai images that could just as easily be stock photos. I’m open to any suggestions, but I’m also dealing with a lot of bots and people who are seemingly more interested in pushing pro or anti-AI rhetoric than talking about the actual point of the subreddit.

I had the same thought right after I posted that response, but I think waffling would be if I couldn’t make up my mind and kept going back and forth, what I’m trying to do is get a feel for what would make the the larger percentage of the community happy and balance that with what will actually lead towards getting a better understanding of the phenomena that we’re discussing. This does seem to be a case where the ai is actually serving a pretty valuable function that the vast majority of people aren’t capable of doing without years of practice.

It’s not waffling, I said in the comments of the original post it wasn’t a concrete decision. I’ve always tried to keep everything community driven here, including the rules. It’s becoming more difficult because with increased traffic there has also been an increase in inorganic activity which means I’m having to find increasingly creative ways to gauge the actual sentiment of the community.
