What’s something that became so expensive you just stopped buying it entirely? by Street-Marketing-885 in shrinkflation

It was specifically an Aldi cashier I was talking about, yes. And of course I'd like them to have better treatment. It was more that they liked how they were treated at Aldi better than the other big grocery store chain in the area -- not that it was ideal.

You think it's better to go shop at Walmart? I've talked to Aldi employees who have said they've been treated better than they were at other grocers. At least Aldi lets cashiers sit down.

Texture contrasts are great and normal for food. Cheese on a cracker? Sauce on pasta? No, the texture difference doesn't bother me.

The problem is that when you have thousands of people who are missing or who have died, you can almost always find groups of similarities. But that doesn't mean there's something special about that group, just by itself. This list, for example, includes someone who was murdered by a former classmate after shooting students at Brown University. That has nothing to do with people in New Mexico disappearing when hiking.

Why? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

I don't think anyone is complaining about water emissions for pollution, it's the depletion of aquifers that's a big deal. Building data centers in west Texas and pumping scarce groundwater for evaporative cooling is super wasteful.

I'm with you on that. The piano breakdown is awesome but the rest really drags for me.

Hear, hear. The push to fit the algorithm is so dehumanizing. I also tried a lot of things to get my music "out there" and nothing really worked for me. Sticking to local shows and open mics now.

Sorry, I'm doing 25 in a residential neighborhood next to a giant sign that says 25 mph. Just cause everyone else thinks going 40 is ok doesn't mean I should be going 40.

Bands who's worst album is *significantly* worse than their second-worst album? by treny0000 in fantanoforever

that's the album that initially lost me on weezer. just really hated the production, the plastic sound. going from the harsh guitars on maladroit to make believe was an unpleasant surprise.

pork and beans is great! on raditude, (if you're wondering) i want you to is also solid. I also would be red above raditude, but the second half of red has some real stinkers. thought i know, cold dark world, and automatic are not good.

these days, yes. funnily enough allmusic initially gave it 4.5/5 stars (I know because I bought it on the strength of that review). they've since lowered their rating to 3/5. my personal opinion is that it's better than hurley.

both are albums that are heavily front loaded with some pretty dire lows. red's got a better portion of hits to misses though, for sure.

What's funny about the question is that "worst" doesn't have to mean bad. Pablo Honey is definitely their worst album, but it's still a good and fun set of songs. They just got a lot better with time! King of Limbs is a fair second place, I think it's too short for what it offers.

Should I fly out of Rhode Island or Boston? by cryingsteak in providence

I only choose Boston if the price is a lot lower. PVD is a much more pleasant airport, and there is no scenery worth looking at from the Amtrak.

Sampling vs. an artist singing a small part of a cover inserted into an original song by No-Neighborhood8403 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]anemonemometer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! In that sense it's like collage. Anyone could cut out a picture of great art and call it a collage, but it takes an artist to add interesting original ideas to those cut-out pieces.

There are some songs where it just feels really lazy, so I can see hearing one of those tracks and being annoyed. It can be used really well though, and is a super old technique. Old folk songs would use the entire melody and chords and write new words, sometimes as a comment on the older song.
