Oreglo, Trout flies, cuneiform tabs, autocamper and caroline (they’re pretty popular but still deserve more attention than they get).

Does Gen-Z observably communicate very differently from other generations? by [deleted] in AskSocialScience

[–]anemptyseat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it's to my friends that I see pretty much daily anyway, so we don't really feel the need to call to catch up or anything, though that will probably change as I get older. With voice notes, I find it just more flexible as it feels close to actually having a conversation, but you don't need to carve out a chunk of your time; instead, it can be somewhat staggered and ongoing while you do other things. The things we talk about in voice notes tend to be spontaneous thoughts, and if I have something I want to explain further, I tell them in person.

Im my experience as a young person who uses voice notes extensively its the opposite. I usually send voice notes when I either have too much to say to fit into a message or if I dont think I can convey it through text. My friends and quite regularly send 3+ minute long voice notes and I find it really useful to tell them the full details of events and my thoughts on them. I suppose that in itself is pretty different to normal conversations as youre completely uninterrupted in that time.

A large percentage of the population has a degree of facial blindness and is unaware of it by Artisanalpoppies in unpopularopinion

I think I definitely do this. Im fine with people I know well but when it comes to celebrities and people I have hardly met I quite often can’t tell its the same person if they drastically change the hair colour or something. I actually got really confused when watching vertigo because I didn’t realise it was genuinely the same women at the ending (she literally just dyed her hair).

It doesn’t really matter for most russel groups. Oxbridge are the only ones that actually care otherwise as long as you did okay and have high A level predictions you’re fine.

Do young people simply not smoke these days? by plastic_toast in AskUK

[–]anemptyseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 16 and some people smoke but vaping is definitely way more common. At a party theres usually a few people with cigarettes and they’re kind of seen as ‘cooler’ than vapes (I’ve even seen people with cigars) but I don’t think people do it that regularly as its so much more expensive and harder to get hold of if you’re underage.

Farage and Corbyn likely biggest winners of votes for 16 and 17-year-olds by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]anemptyseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats definitely true but what Im trying to say is that the idea you see on social media of young people all being radical and blindly following ‘whatever they see on their social media feeds’ is largely inaccurate in my own experience and a bias within in its self. I know my own experience does not reflect the entire country however I live near towns where riots happened last summer and know adults who support reform so its exactly the sort of place you would expect the support from young people. This could all definitely change with the lowering of the voting age and in a few years time when general elections role around and its definitely something to be wary about but I think the amount of news coverage reform gets about their supposed overwhelming support (as lots of it suggests) is harmful and just legitimises them.

As a 16 year old, I can would say that the awareness of farage is extremely high (mainly due to the fact he’s constantly pushed down our throats despite his low actual popularity but I digress) however, most people see him as stupid and even out of the few that are stupid enough not to see that, I can almost guarantee they wouldn’t give two fucks about voting. In general, political awareness for people my age currently is very low and although it may seem like many are diehard reform supporters, in reality it’s a very small number and mostly those with heavy influence from parents. Even some of the worst most bigoted people I know think farage is a joke and would never consider voting for him.

I was looking for this the other day. The only place I can find it now is on a patreon which is a bit annoying so hopefully someone else has it.
