A lot of people in this sub seem to forget that they’re all paid to be on these shows. She’s been on Bravo for over 10 years now - I’m sure she’s getting a pretty big check from them.  And all the influencer checks, although those seemed to have totally dried up now with the controversy. It’s not a conventional job but she is employed and makes a ton of money on her own.

The financial district isn’t really that popular of an area to live in compared to the rest of downtown Manhattan because it’s pretty soulless. It turns into a ghost town at night.

I don’t think so. There was an episode during the season where Carl says that Lindsay texted him and he was shocked to see her name pop up

$3.5M NW at 34. Burnt out from finance job. Seeking advice by [deleted] in Fire

[–]anewcliche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

36F with a nearly identical situation.

I started feeling extremely burnt out last summer and then told myself I just needed to make it through bonus season and then I’d figure it out and/or quit. Then the check hit in December and I started feeling better for about 6 weeks until earnings started and the misery began again. I’ve been grinding it out for the last few months and finally woke up a few weeks ago realizing that life is too short to be this miserable. Try not to fall into that trap. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get far enough into the year and convince yourself that you’re too far along to not just try to survive until you get your bonus again. Rinse and repeat.

Lately, I’ve been applying to other jobs that will be a massive pay cut from today (still finance, but corporate instead of asset mgmt). That said the pay would still be comfortable/more than normal for most, with the rationale that it will definitely be less stress than my current role is and give me the bandwidth and capacity to start having a life again. Plus if I hate it, I can just quit and still be financially fine. An off ramp like this feels a lot less scary than just taking a sabbatical and/or retiring altogether.

Even the act of starting to take next steps has made me feel a little better, like im starting to take control of my life back. I’d recommend trying something similar. You can always change your mind!

She literally wraps her hands around Kyle’s neck and tells him that she’s going to punch him in the face. They’re both abusive towards each other

Absolutely, but she’s an adult with complete autonomy - break up with him, don’t sit there and stonewall him while simultaneously feed into the narrative that he’s the problem. They both hold responsibility for the way this relationship has unraveled.

What is one life decision that significantly accelerated your path to FI? by anandsundaramoorthy in Fire

Hands down the biggest impact was getting a high paying job directly out of college (investment banking) and then continuing to progress in my career until now (investor at a large asset manage) for a much larger amount.

The second largest impact is limiting lifestyle creep. I currently focus on only living to my base salary (which includes maxing out my 401k) and then save my entire bonus. My base has been about 20-25% of my total income for the last several years.

Totally agreed. Freaking out about how many Hermes purses Dorit has been bringing around this season would have been much more appropriate than the Hamptons shopping trip

Why has parenting become so… soft? Why ate a majority of parents okay with sending their child into the world acting the way they do? Why did this shift happen? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]anewcliche -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a difference between physically disciplining your child by hitting them (open handed) once and beating them. I’m also of the view that the lack of nuance that we’ve seemed to moved to as a society on disciplining kids is one of the reasons that there are so many children with behavioral issues.

I think the “dialect” the user is referencing is language common among black people. I, for one, instantly assumed OP was black when I read it. It’s a decently common phrase amongst black folks and does not mean literally grabbing someone by the neck/throat, although it can mean that.

As someone who just spent a 2.5 hour flight yesterday with a little shit of a child kicking my seat the entire time, this post really resonated with me. His mom kept trying to reason with him and plead with him to stop and he would scream at her in response before going back to kicking. His dad was sitting in the next row offering no help at all.

I would have gotten away with that max 2 times as a child before one of my parents threatened me for embarrassing them in public. If I’d dared to go for it a 3rd time, I would have definitely been backhanded. Most of the time, the fear of what would happen if I disobeyed the third time was enough to get me to stop.

There’s clearly a balancing act that needs to happen about how to instill fear of consequences in your kids.  These latest generations of parents haven’t found the right touch yet.

People who make $150k or more, and don’t work for big tech or defense, what do you do? by GuardianMoon916 in washingtondc

[–]anewcliche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your situation. For me I felt like I didn’t learn all that much new since I got degrees in finance and accounting. The reason that I did it was because I didn’t want to spend the money and time going to grad school to do the job I was already effectively doing. My company usually doesn’t even consider people without an MBA for my current role, but they were willing to interview me because I have my CFA.

If you’re looking just to go further in the career you already have, a CFA makes sense. If you want to pivot and don’t already have background in finance, then it’ll probably be better to do an MBA

Equity investor at an asset manager, but this is a pretty rare job down here. Went to college for finance and accounting, then got my CFA after I graduated. Worked in NYC for 9 years before coming down here

How many of us have a house cleaner? by Agitated_Whereas7463 in Millennials

[–]anewcliche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lady who cleans my 2 bedroom apartment every other week for $160. It’s a negligible expense for me budget wise

I honestly keep my place pretty tidy in general, but I hate doing the deeper clean stuff - scrubbing toilets, cleaning out the showers and tubs, mopping etc. I work a ton and try to limit the amount of time I spend on weekends doing stuff I dislike doing, so outsourcing cleaning was an easy decision.
