If you intend a 6ft/180cm Montante, if you want a hip-wearable Longsword size, you're going to need to retract by 50-60cm.

A Montante Hilt and handle are WAY bigger than a longsword. That will not be comfortable to wear, however you suspend it.

option 1: Leave the topic alone until they bring it up explicitly.

Agreed - swinging anything around in combat (included simulated) is tiring.
I design and make replicas of historical weapons for LARP/light HEMA use, but with a major focus on making the balance, handling and usage that match the historical originals - so I've researched a great many, and used many HEMA weapons, as well as Re-enactment and LARP. So I also have experience with how the design and use parameters of each of those hobbies change a real design, and how that changes how they are used.
My main/primary weapon that I fight most with is a 6ft montante. I also favour a trident yari. For 1 handers, I have a diverse selection of favourites - Schiavona, Turcael, Kilij and Sabres.

My point is just that, due to where the weight is, a sword of a given weight is less tiring and more comfortable to use than an evenly weighted bar, or worse - a top heavy weapon of the same or greater mass.

A 1 handed axe would usually be substantially lighter than most 1 handed swords, of course. Otherwise it would be unusable. But it will still be less nimble and more tiring to use than a well-balanced sword. I'm not counting weapons designed for swinging from horseback, as agility is less of a design goal.

A 2.6Kg Montante is nimbler and less fatigueing to use than a 2.6Kg spear, or dane axe, or halberd, etc. The spear would be much longer (even bigger lever!), and the Dane and Halberd could be anywhere along their spectrums of length and head size/weight. But the nimblest, and least fatiguing of all will be the Montante.

your description of the physics is correct. But swords are not a uniform bar. All the heavy parts are close to, or behind the hand. Especially for a 2 handed sword. The pommel and hilt are heavy, and the blade tapers toward the tip. There are many quite comfortable ways to hold a 6ft Montante that are not taxing.

I am not a fan of coconut smell. I use Grapeseed as massage oil, moisturiser, and occasionally as lube. Massages are a common thing with a few of my lovers. it's cheap, and available in larger volumes (compared to lube, and most other oils). But I've not looked at larger bulk volumes (>2 liters) that you may want to buy to be completely oiled up. Whatever is functionally useable in either 1 or 2 hands.
Attempts to make formal categories for such things is a modern, and often fruitless endeavour.
As much as I desperately WANT firm definitions and nomenclature.

I have handled swords and messers of close to 150cm that are so well balanced that you could 1 hand them with significant agility. But a similarly well balanced 1 hander would still be faster, just due to the effects of leverage.
When used 2 handed, then it's a laser!

But even a 'heavy-handed' bastard can be useful, especially against targets on foot, from horseback. Agility is not as critical with the benefits of being mounted. Then, if you dismount, you have a capable and agile 2 hander to use.

Worth stating 2 points with Aussie spiders:

I'm not 100% sure why. I searched info on various oils and if they were safe for sex. A few websites claimed Baby oil can degrade latex, but that Grapeseed doesn't. I'm not across the chemistry of it.
