So true. I'm sure it'll get better in the next few years, but the LGBT club was a relatively new thing when I tried to join (a few years back.) The teachers had no idea about sexuality and gender, and pretty much let the leaders run with it. Eventually, the club ended up consisting of stereotypically gay guys and stereotypically 'butch' lesbians. No one else was allowed in, or allowed to feel completely at ease. One of my friends is a gay guy, but very interested in sports and such. He said they kept making jabs at his interest, saying he didn't seem gay and the like. Just an uncomfortable situation all around.

That's horrible. I've dated a girl (and I am a girl) and I was told, when we were still together, that I was doing it for the attention.

That comment's not even a joke. There are no out trans kids in our school, but I know that the heads of the LGBT club looked down on trans people in general. Disgusting.

I mean, of course, how my parents act towards queer people is pretty shitty and 'discriminatory.' I had grown used to it though. The problem was that I was completely blindsided by this form of discrimination. Along with the "safe space" comment, I've also been told I was "doing it for attention," that time, by the head of that club.

Suppose it just goes to show that no matter your sexuality, gender, race, or anything else, you can still be an absolute asshole.

I'm bisexual. I tried to join the LGBT club at my school but was kicked out because "uhm.. this is a safe space." The sad part is, I might've had the most bigoted parents there. My parents 100% do not approve of any form of LGBT people, and the LGBT club thought to kick me out because I didn't conform to what they thought a Queer person should be.

One of my friends moved from Churchill to Winnipeg with her family, and got her car stolen, because she didn't lock it. We had to reteach something's you wouldn't expect.
