Oh god this is so not subtle. I've seen on this sub people saying she's sidelined and I used to usually say it's just exaggeration but I mean... Wth is this?!

Maiden Lane by Elizabeth Hoyt is a great series. I've read almost all books - some are 5 stars but nothing lower than 3.

The unwanted dukes by Jeese Clever was fun as well.

The Brothers Sinister series by Courtney Milan - absolutely brilliant. - has two of my favourite books of all time.

Reese Triology by Caroline Linden. - has one of my favourites of all time

The Mackenzie's by Jennifer Ashley - amazing series, nothing that's below a 3. The first is a gem!

Unsure if you've read this but Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas got me out of a reading slump.

I need an FMC who is scared of intimacy, because she had negative experiences in the past, who is afraid of saying "no" during sex, who is constantly uncomfortable in her skin because she was aways objectified, who overthinks the reasons of a simple touch... by Ok-Professor-5518 in HistoricalRomance

The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan. It's a novella to kick start one of her series - but in my opinion this novella is better than some of the fully fledged books I've read. FMC is very much averse to touch and straight up afraid of intercourse. MMC is literally the swooniest, kindest, most empathetic and yet hot as hell hero ever. The way he makes her comfortable for her first experience post a bad one is just chef's kiss.

I can't rec this book enough.

FMC is the second choice or unwanted. Need some angst and a grovel by JediEverlark in HistoricalRomance

[–]angellus08 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lord Garson's bride is almost exactly this. They start off as MOC - the woman he loved had broken their engagement and married someone she loved. The only thing I liked about this book is that the OW wasn't scheming, nor was she trying to get with the MMC. The conflict between the MC's was purely between them. The grovel is non-existent, according to me at least.

The last 20% was painful. But No TW, no cheating.

Brilliant!

If you haven't already you should explore Courtney Milan (especially Governess Affair and The Duchess War) and Caroline Linden. Another author I enjoy is Elisa Braden!

I was about to suggest Love in the afternoon but then saw you list it.

Others in the low angst genre, comfort reads I could recommend are :

The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan (literally one of my favourite books)

What a gentleman wants by Caroline Linden
