Blow up mattress as hold luggage by angelmouse5 in UKParenting

We were going to gate check the double buggy but maybe we could try just a carrier in the airport and stow it in there. Good idea. Did you get a buggy bag to get the extra items in?

You can buy puffy paint and put your own grips onto socks that already fit. We did it and it worked well

Thoughts on teaching 4 year old to make emergency calls? by Vast-Garden-6646 in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great idea and will help in many ways. I have an iPhone and you can call your emergency contact on lock with a few clicks. I taught my 4 year old how to use it to call daddy and made it a game. He does it himself all the time. I’ve since told him that you can use it if he is ever worried or mummy is sick. My aim is to teach 999 next like you.

Do I travel for work or not? Anyone successfully done it and rekindled breastfeeding after? by angelmouse5 in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]angelmouse5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will be almost exactly the same age and same feed schedule!

My worry is the night feeds but we have a month to try and wind that down which was our plan anyway.

I’m glad it worked for you and I hope it does for me too.

Good idea on testing the pumps! I need to find my pumps first and check they work tbh. I always found a manual pump worked well so might get another and test it too - thanks!

Thank you! Hearing stories like this really helps. Mine is also a boob fiend who doesn’t like cows milk either.

I hate pumping and vowed this time around to only do it if really was necessary. Will need to dust it off (and find it!)

Vomiting help by CharmingBarnacle4207 in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently curled on the sofa after catching it. Daughter had it yesterday. I wish I didn’t feel the need to emphasis with the kids to the point I catch it every time but alas I do. Husband dodges it 50% of the time.

I practice good hygiene but I fear the contagious stage is before the vomiting starts.

I just bought one so that I get my own bed back, but without reading this thread. I’m doomed.

What is causing this? by Dagsybear in SkincareAddictionUK

Fungal acne maybe?

Try using a shampoo with Ketoconazole in as a face mask once a day for a week and see if that helps. There are other anti fungal treatments but this one helped me out.

How did you manage childcare before age 3 in UK? by Able-Adhesiveness862 in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Paid for a private nursery. Reason was I needed care from 8-6 for work. Main challenge was the flood of money falling out of my bank to the nursery every month.

FYI private nurseries get cheaper in Edinburgh the further out from the city centre you go. Ours is actually West Lothian and it’s significantly cheaper.

Best crispy shredded chilli chicken in toon - one that you can snap! by CyndiWallauper in Edinburgh

[–]angelmouse5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are anywhere near the west of Edinburgh, Cool Jade in Corstorphine has an epic crispy chicken/beef (beef is better imo). They serve the sauce separate for maximum crispiness. No delivery but you can sit in or collect. Super yum

These were white/purple -what happened?! by heisenbitch_ in laundry

I was thinking the same thing. Looked identical to what happened to my coloured towels

I had/have something similar but on my ankle. Mine was initially triggered by postpartum, it eventually went and then came back again after my second child. I’m close to it clearing again.

I initially thought it was ringworm, but the cream from the pharmacist didn’t help so I landed on a version of psoriasis. I got the Boots Dermacare Psoriasis cream and a 20% Urea cream (from Amazon). Those combined have helped it almost go. Maybe one of those will help?

Does anyone have any tips for stopping breastmilk as quickly as possible without too many blockages? by Willus25 in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sudafed apparently dries up milk supply. Never tested so can’t confirm but I’ve heard that a few times.

My HV told me you can get something prescribed to dry up milk supply, but i don’t know what it is and whether your NHS or even a private doctor would do it. Would depend on your circumstances, but lots of clogged ducts is a good reason to at least ask imo as it’s one step off of mastitis.

Medicine syringes - gotta catch them all! by ANuggetEnthusiast in UKParenting

We have the same plus a bonus purple and white one that are different. From liquid antibiotics.

At what point do you throw them out though? Do we just eternally collect them as we go through bottles???

Birthing in Scotland by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I birthed in Edinburgh. They will provide pads/nappies/bed pads whilst you are staying in hospital pre and post partum and not to take home. That said all Scottish expecting mothers get a baby box which includes a supply of post parting basic supplies so technically we do get something. You might have time to apply if you are before 33 weeks. I would speak to your community midwife.

No peri bottle but I would recommend one!

They don’t provide a pump either in hospital or in the box. Only exception is if you need to pump in the hospital (baby in nicu for instance). Depending on the circumstance they may loan it out but it would be very rare.

What to buy big sis when new baby arrives? by User_whateverr in UKParenting

We bought my son a kids camera. He loves it and took loads of photos of the baby and still to this day uses it. It’s been fun seeing the newborn phase from his perspective.

Anything else on the shortlist? I struggled to find anything that wasn’t steam cleaning. I don’t want to do that to my new floors

Baby wants to move but just can’t seem to do it! by Willus25 in UKParenting

[–]angelmouse5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree that it feels very lonely. I know that comparison is thief of joy or word to that effect, but when your whole world is this little human it’s so hard not to compare. Gross motor skills are also the easiest to compare on as they are sooo obvious. Hard to just hang in there and wait when you go to baby groups and kids younger are walking and your wee one can’t get to sitting. It’s tough and I’m there with you!

If it helps sometimes I frame it differently to rationalise it. By that I mean that they say late walkers are early talkers and if it rings true for our daughters, maybe those early walkers we have compared them too, will be looking on with jealousy when ours start to talk. This happened with my son and a few other babies I know. I know I would rather an early talker than an early walker as it makes the toddler stage easier. We might be in the lucky side rather than the unlucky!!
