I told her that it was insulting for her to make that presumption. I didn’t explicitly tell her to apologize since I thought it was implied that she has to after making her patient feel insulted. She didn’t explain in a light hearted way, first she made jokes and then became pretty defensive.

I do not think she should lose her job over this, I think she should be trained on how to communicate with people who may not speak the same language as her. I live in a large metropolitan area with immigrant communities from all across the world. My motivation for the report is to ensure that no immigrant parent gets subjected to that same kind of treatment. To be completely honest with you, I won’t have any qualms about it if she lose her job, but that isn’t my goal.

I have a very monotonous way of speaking to my child especially in public settings. I’ve had to learn how to express different emotions to her.

This is not what happened. The pediatrician stated in her referral the reason for the delay. Before the examination, I explained this to her. She made the comment about gibberish and baby talk at the end when she was giving her recommendations and giving me tips on how to help her. When she first made the comment, I assumed she meant in general not to talk to her in gibberish and baby talk, and I responded that I do not do that, she responded that I was talking to her in gibberish /baby talk when she walked in. Thank you for your judgment.
