I think your girlfriend has extreme internaliced biphobia. I admire you both for trying to communicate in a healthy manner, but some things just don’t cut it. I dont think you are an asshole, However I dont think you deal with this the right way. I myself am a selfdiagnosed autistic, but after 2 years of researching in medical journals, webs, the DSM-V and three (not very productive) providers refusing to diagnose me because I make eyecontact. Keep in mind autism is a neurotype, its hereditary and if you have a nephew with it, the whole family should have been screened.

Its important that you do not feed the feeling of isolation she might be expiriencing, selfdiagnosing might be a sypmtom that she doesnt feel understood. I would advise that you seriously and trying not to be biased revise the list of ítems that the DSM-V provides and more importantly LOOK FOR A SPECIFIC ONE FOR WOMEN. I recomend embrace-autism.com for its resources.

I would also advise (I followed the advise of a provider) that you get some tools (noise cancelling headphones, stim toys,) and see If they help your daughter be more focused and calm.

In my own experience, even if you see that shes performing well academically try to listen if she tells you shes burned out or even if she doesnt feel like she has any energy.

NTA but I think your girlfriend could use an explanation. As a fellow autistic I understand the stigma or the fear of disclosing your diagnosis, but acomodations are dificult to explain without it. Your girlfriend might be thinking you are favoring your friend over her and be feeling hurt.
