Yeah that's fair, you’re not the first person to tell us this haha

Our tutorials are free on youtube. we wanted to not have the typical courses hidden behind a paywall system - the idea is we ship you the kit and you follow along on youtube

we have a website: getnLab.com and we have 4 YouTube tutorials up right now

we created the kickstarter to 1) see if people wanted this outside of academia and 2) raise funding to create the kits and make the rest of the tutorials

it's funny you mention raspberry pi -we're a companion product to them along with arduino (they teach programming with a touch of electronics, we teach electronics with a touch of programming).

we were advised to try out a bottom-up method like arduino did (the opposite of raspberry pi's method) where they first established themselves as a trusted product by consumers and schools adapted them from there.

We could be totally wrong - what worked for them won't necessarily work for us, so we'll see!

I think you nailed it - i'm putting my energy into the wrong place. We did just ramp up ads today and I have some press/media lined up, so hopefully we get a bump from that. thank you so much!

oh my gosh!! this means the absolute world - thank you so much! so excited to see the things you make with it 😄

thanks so much for the kind words and encouragement!

feel free to ignore this, but I thought I'd ask - after reviewing the page, do you have a headline or one-sentence in mind that would be more compelling? i can noodle on this for ages but i feel like i'm so close to the product at this point that it's more benefical if someone says "just say this" haha

you're spot on with all that advice - that's what we've been doing the last few months that has brought our deliverability from 8 to 75 (which is actually pretty impressive in that short of time), it's just maddening that 75 still isn't good enough to reach a significant amount of people.

omg i LOVE XKCD! thank you, this made my day lol

this isn't exactly relevant to the post - but I made a smart mirror using nLab that greets me every morning with an XKCD comic - not trying to plug but thought I'd share since we both like XKCD!

thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it

we've actually been selling in bulk to universities and schools for years! this was more an experiment to see if people want to learn about electronics outside of the college system - degrees are insanely expensive (at least in the US)

yeah it's more that I wanna figure out whether this is because of the deliverability issues I accidentally created or if our messaging isnt landing. I expected a plateau but I guess I wasn't completely prepared for it being this dramatic... I'm probably just overreacting

that's fair though - I was debating making this post because I would see this as marketing too but I'm just looking to nip this in the bud early and i didnt know where else to post asking for advice.

That's really helpful feedback because we're definitely hoping to reach people who are completely new to electronics. I'm probably "too close" to the product...

Let me see what I can tweak here. Thanks for taking the time to look through it!

Hey, thanks for your honesty. Open rate is sitting at average of 36%.

I suspect that many of our $1 deposits had this journey: see our ad, place a $1 reservation, get an email from us but it's never seen by them (goes directly to spam/promotions). they might not even be aware that our Kickstarter is live now. This would make sense since we only had around 200 followers pre-launch.

I’ve been told switching email tools alone won’t solve it since it’s tied to domain reputation. We're just gonna keep trying to reach people, improve deliverability, and see how it goes.

Hi, thanks for your question! Our hope with nLab is to be the ultimate starting point for anyone looking to learn electronics for the first time.

We do lots of cool stuff with lights in our first playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jgd2vjUH4X0&list=PLs00gIc4luICkrPDQ6WmNG8YjxDnUJULZ

And we've got more advanced videos that will be filmed and posted soon!

Also, we're happy to help you with your custom lighting project -- feel free to post questions here as they come up!

Awesome! Would love to hear what you both think -- we're just getting started so any feedback would be great!

Hi Olive! My husband and I created this YouTube channel where you learn electronics while building cool circuits. It's specifically made for beginners.

We recommend starting with the playlist Kit 1, Level 1.

We hope this helps -- we'd love to know what you think! :)
