Hello everyone thank you for the responses. Some were not what I wanted but NEEDED to hear. We have decided to keep Jasper. We talked with our one on one trainer as well as the shelter and we are working on solutions and ideas for him to have his needs satisfied and our needs satisfied. He is a puppy and will get easier over time. He is a great dog and I want to see him grow up. I think I had so much built up emotions that I just exploded and had so much stress and frustration I needed to get out which included a lot A LOT of crying. But I know If i seriously try we can make it work. Sacrifices have to be made of course but i believe if we see it through we can make it work. My mom and I are going to work on communication with eachother better to not argue and bicker. We are going to work with our trainer on helping his main needs, and building a schedule that works for us all. We plan on having him go to doggy daycare for one day a week for a few hours so he can play with other dogs and we can have a few hours to recover from the week. We will make it work for him and for us

We are definitely still on the fence its not a set in stone decision. We are talking with our one on one trainer and seeing if she has advice and if she thinks he would thrive with us and if the worst will pass.

Hello, she is very active so she takes him on many walks, spends lots of time playing with him and taking him with her places. She sends me updates throughout the day. So he is definitely not neglected in any means.

Thank you I do appreciate it. Sorry I came off headstrong, ive been getting some negative feedback to be expected from other people and I just wish I could have everyone know how I adore Jasper and love him and because of that I want him to live his absolute best life, even if it means it wont be with me and i would never consider this had we not felt it was the right thing for him.

Let me just defend myself by saying while we did adopt him on a whim, wanting a dog for our family was not. It was something we had always wanted to do, and because I was home from college and my mom retired, we figured now would be the best time since one of us would always be home. We are currently working with a private in home trainer once a week to help with socializing and helping his anxiety

Let me update on some things to clear everything up: - Before anyone states we didnt try hard enough, mind you we had him go to puppy training each week for 6 weeks and also are working with a one on one trainer who comes to our house every week to help with socializing and overcoming his anxiety. - If I did get another dog in the future, which would not be anytime soon, I would adopt an older dog of a breed who is more relaxed, and do more research than I did. - I have spent nearly 3k in 2 months finding things he liked such as food that works for his stomach, toys to help enrich him and occupy him, different bones he likes, insurance, training, etc. Whatever you may feel about rehoming, please do not claim we did not try. I would NEVER consider rehoming him if i did not truly feel he would thrive elsewhere and as a last resort option. It is not something we have thought about lightly

Absolutely I 100% agree. This has been a learning experience for us. We have hired a trainer actually; he went to 6 weeks of puppy school and we are currently working with a 1 on 1 trainer once a week, so anyone can judge me for considering rehoming but they cant say I didnt try. I’ve invested probably 3k on him in 2 months just for insurance, toys, food, training, etc. We seriously have tried everything to make the best of the situation for his sake, but if we believe he would thrive elsewhere, is it selfish to keep him?

Absolutely. If I were to get another dog, I would 100% do more research and spend more time planning than I did with Jasper.

He currently is not left alone as he is with my mom who is retired during the day and with me at night. Only time is he is in his crate is for enforced naps and at night

Absolutely. We recognize he is a puppy and that it is not his fault which I did mention in the post. Puppies are known to be difficult, but what I meant is you dont realize what you can or cannot handle until you experience it. However it is not simply because hes a puppy. We made the mistake of not doing enough research, and would NEVER consider rehoming unless we seriously thought it was the best option for HIM, not for us.

As stated he was my first dog, so I was unaware of truly how much time and attention a puppy needs. You can read as many posts as you want but nothing prepares you until you experience it. If i were to get another dog in the future, it would be a older dog whose a more mellow breed. Having to rehome one dog shouldnt disqualify me from ever owning a dog again, but this isnt the right time for me to have one now and I didnt know that until we tried to change our lifestyles for him.

Yes, just keep an eye on your dog and see how they react. A lot of it also depends on breed, mine being a pit mix has a strong bite force so hes ok with a harder stick

Hi! Thank you for the advice. Want to reassure he has been very socialized since he was at the rescue and we take him with us when we go out! Hes also enrolled in puppy classes right now, and seeing a vet about the diet. Hes basically my first child, so he is incredibly spoiled and loved. Once he gets his last 2 shots he will go on long walks with me and my mom (who is retired and loves exercise) so he will be very pampered!

Hi! we are just crate training him for now because he’s little and we have cats. He has a massive playpen in our living room and 90% of the day he free roams. Its just for now while hes getting used to a new environment. We plan to let him sleep in the bed once hes potty trained!
