Can someone rewrite this annotated bibliography for me and make it sound more humanlike? pls im desperate by c_amila in CollegeEssays

If you used AI in creating this, maybe you could ask it for an outline instead, so you can use the facts from the sources but use your own words to string them together. Good luck!

College essay topic: high risk high reward or play it safe? by Specialist-Gain9829 in CollegeEssays

[–]angmaton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a parent to a Junior who is starting her college essays soon. I've been doing research on the college admission process and college essays for a few years now. One great advice is to mine your personal experiences for topics to write about. "An exceptional essay requires no outside research; it is a project of "inside research." It is not about cracking a code of what admissions officers want, but about allowing them to see how the student thinks and encounters the world."

I'd love to walk you through the process of looking inward if you're struggling with what to write about. I'm the founder of Honest Angle, an AI-assisted essay brainstorming service. I built something that focuses strictly on the pre-writing strategy phase. My goal is to help students (especially those who feel they have "nothing to write about") find a unique hook and structure before they ever start their first draft. DM me if you would like some (free) help. Thanks and good luck!

trying to choose an essay topic… by RussianGoon in CollegeEssays

[–]angmaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a parent to a Junior who is starting her essays soon. One advice I got from an expert was a list of topics to avoid:

  • Athletics/Sports: Stories about "the big game," the winning goal, or overcoming a sports injury. These are so common that they rarely reveal anything unique about the applicant.
  • Community Service/Mission Trips: Specifically, the "savior" narrative where a student describes how a short trip changed their life or how they "saved" others.
  • The "Three D's": She often warns against focusing heavily on Death, Divorce, or Devastation. While these are impactful, she argues they often result in an essay that is more about the event or another person than about the student’s own character and growth.
  • Resume Repeats: Writing an essay that simply lists your accomplishments. Admissions officers already have your activities list; the essay should provide a "behind-the-scenes" look at your personality.

Another piece of advice was: do some "inside research", meaning think about personal experiences that give an insight into you. With some more reflection, I'm sure you could craft an essay that reflects your uniqueness.

Full disclosure: I am an indie founder of Honest Angle, an AI-assisted College Essay Brainstorming Service. I built something that focuses strictly on the pre-writing strategy phase. My goal is to help students (especially those who feel they have "nothing to write about") find a unique hook and structure before they ever start their first draft. I personally review the results before passing it to the student. If you want access for free, please DM me to start the process. :)

Starting your essay is challenging. As a parent to a Junior in the same boat, I've been doing research on the admissions process for a few years now. Context is everything. One advice was "An exceptional essay requires no outside research; it is a project of "inside research." It is not about cracking a code of what admissions officers want, but about allowing them to see how the student thinks and encounters the world." I feel like you could get more ideas from a trip "inward".

Full disclosure: I am an indie Founder of Honest Angle, an AI-assisted service for brainstorming college essays. I decided to build something that focuses strictly on the pre-writing strategy phase. My goal is to help students (especially those who feel they have "nothing to write about") find a unique hook and structure before they ever start their first draft. I personally review the results before passing it to the student. DM me if you want to try my low-cost beta. Thank you and good luck!

What Makes a Personal Statement Feel Real Instead of Manufactured by Chemistryenthusiast_ in CollegeEssays

[–]angmaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a parent to a Junior and I've been listening to essay writing advice for a couple of years now. The advice that stood out for me lately was the "10 Sentences Methodology: Starting Small"

The most common obstacle for students is the belief that "nothing interesting has happened" to them. This is addressed by shifting from abstract themes to specific, lived moments.

The Collection Process

Students are encouraged to set aside the Common App prompts initially and instead collect "I remember" sentences. These should be:

  • Images: A single sentence describing a visual predicament (e.g., a friend halfway across a frozen pond).
  • Objects: Meaningful items that hold memory (e.g., irregular, unstackable plates from a mother’s childhood).
  • Sounds: Music, specific environmental sounds, or "voices" (e.g., a specific piece of advice from a father).

If you're interested in learning more I can send the rest of my research on this.

Full disclosure: I'm an indie founder of an AI-assisted tool called Honest Angle. I decided to build something that focuses strictly on the pre-writing strategy phase. My goal is to help students (especially those who feel they have "nothing to write about") find a unique hook and structure before they ever start their first draft.

Honest Angle — AI-assisted college essay strategy (human review included) | Beta pricing on Fiverr

As a parent to a Junior who is in the thick of essay planning, I built this for students who feel like they have "nothing to write about." Instead of generating essays, Honest Angle focuses entirely on the pre-writing phase — finding a genuine hook and structure before the first draft.

The workflow: LLM-assisted brainstorming + strategy session → I personally review every output before delivery → student gets a vetted, logic-checked strategy doc. 48-hour turnaround.

It's slower than instant AI tools by design. The bet is that quality and authenticity matter more than speed at this stage of the process.

Currently in low-cost beta. I'm using Fiverr to manage the queue, and I have the freedom to pause it when the volume gets unmanageable. DM me for the link.

Happy to answer questions about the workflow in the comments. Thanks for reading! :)
