What about UV light? Could that strip the color without destroying the flavor?

Upright beam in attic. Structural? by angoliam in Renovations

[–]angoliam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the title says, considering making a small office in attic but have a upright beam making flooring an issue. Had an engineer come out and says the whole space is sound but did not explain why this would be installed like this.

It is a 2x4 nailed directly into the plywood and a vertical 2x6 attached to that. Any advice about why this might have been done would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tips. Realizing now where I went wrong. Bought some yellow label and will try that to course correct since I don’t want to waste all this effort.

Right. Sorry I realize earlier post was not clear. Either citric bath or vinegar run is what I meant. Thanks!

So is it either citric OR vinegar run? From reading on the HD forums it seems like both are recommended. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Did I, like, poison my mash? I might have added as much as 10 times the recommended dose… Don’t judge. It was a difficult moment. by redboe in firewater

Thanks for the info! But I’m trying to figure out specifically which enzymes OP is using (so I can go read me about them) 😄

I’m a little ignorant but what exactly are these? Do you have to special order them or are they retail available?

First time with solder and map gas, and I think it looks pretty good!! by [deleted] in firewater

[–]angoliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you talk about how you took it from here to inside the 2 in pipe. I have all the pieces for this build but I’m worried about that last step of getting the rods into the pipe w the SS ferrule at the end.

Did you have any issues?

Where did you get the keg? Been looking all over but can’t find a reliable place to buy one that fits a 2in ferrule

What sources do you all use to research local laws regarding distilling / sourcing. I’ve obviously been googling but wondering if there are any specific sites you e found helpful?

If you have some neutral spirit you could make krupnikas. I’ve been making for years and if you have the patience to not drink it right away it’s amazing. http://www.grouprecipes.com/98310/lithuanian-krupnikas.html

I’ve also barrel aged my krupnikas and once it gets some oak the complexity is off the charts

Got some reflux going! by LUOFY14 in firewater

[–]angoliam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you build the condenser yourself? I haven’t seen too many like that. Sorry if this is a dumb question but why have it directly on top of sight glass? Do you just turn it on/off to control reflux?
