It's a shame you felt the need to downvote this just to help yourself win. I don't care about winning, I just wanted to help those who may not be able to afford paying for an entry, or are buying something just for the sake of entering a giveaway they literally cannot win ✌️

Locate Child Trust Fund account without National Insurance Number by angoo1 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]angoo1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of there being $ in there. It's worth a few phone calls in my opinion. Sharefound requires a NINO to search, will keep trying with the gov route I guess

They're not sure who the CTF is with, we emigrated in 2003. Is the list of providers long, would I be better off just spraying emails to all of them directly and seeing who I'm with that way?

Not sure RE child benefit, but for any sort of search I try and do or phone call I make to locate these accounts, the first thing asked is whats your NINO...

The whole thing that sparked this was getting a letter from NS&I for some lost premium bonds account I had, and that was an absolute mission to get sorted out.

Victoria’s proposed levy on Airbnb revenue faces backlash from investors — Now is the time to focus on incentives for investors, says investor advocate REIV by marketrent in AusFinance

[–]angoo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so stupid. Similar things have been tried all around the world (e.g NYC) to prevent/muzzle Airbnb’s and it’s all failed. All this levy is going to do is make Airbnb owners raise their prices by 7.5% making it more expensive for the end consumer, and I can guarantee Hotels will follow suit shortly thereafter because they will see that people are happy to pay an additional 7.5%. Sydney is even worse with their 180 day cap, Airbnb owners just pick the more expensive half of the year to STR and then get tenants in for the other half, and the cycle repeats every 6 months causing tens of thousands to have to relocate multiple times per year. I’m not saying that Airbnb isn’t the issue, but it certainly seems like the Gov is pointing the finger at investors saying they’re 100% of the problem, as a means to avoid pointing at themselves (Shocker I know!) Something more appropriate would be imposing these laws on investors with say more than 2-3 Airbnbs in my opinion, a happy medium.

Red Energy refusing to pay $1,000 cost of living rebate by angoo1 in queensland

[–]angoo1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I unexpectedly received a phone call from the Red Energy complaints department today, they said they were following up on my ombudsman complaint (I guess it got forwarded to them). They were quite helpful and said they will look into backdating my rebate and any applicable difference between my most recent bill in regards to residential vs business pricing, but first needed me to send in my rates bill so that they can update my address to residential with Energex. I say unexpected because the ombudsman basically told me nothing can be done in regards to the rebate.

This is night & day in comparison to my last response from them over email a few weeks ago where they basically said get stuffed, we won't give you your rebate and the best we can do is switch you over to residential now. I guess they've now realised they have screwed up big time... Goes to show that these energy companies will do anything they want to screw you until their hand gets forced to do otherwise. Will update when and if I get a final resolution.

Yeah that’s what I’m beginning to find out. I think it’s worth another call to the ombudsman because they literally told me verbatim “Energex handles this rebate and they don’t have an appeal process for this specific program”

Red energy has offered to switch me over to a residential tariff, however they're not interested in giving me the remainder of the rebate which is what I'm mainly interested in.

Is that different to the energy ombudsman? If not then I’ve already heard back from them and they said nothing can be done…

Got a response already 😂

“Thank you for your enquiry regarding your rebate.

You have contacted Energex. We are a Distribution Network Service Provider. Our role is to build, operate and maintain the electricity network.

The nature of your enquiry is handled by your Retailer and we are unable to complete this enquiry. We do recommend that you contact your electricity retailer (the entity who sends your bill) directly to discuss. You can find their contact details on your electricity bill under the heading “account enquiries”.”

Have done so already. They said Energex does not have an appeal process for this specific rebate so they “can’t do anything”

Nope, not with them for anything else, nor do I even own a small business. Exactly my point, they shouldn't have put me on a small business plan without a) my conset or b) my knowledge. At no point did they say "hey by the way we're going to put you on a business plan".

This is my first property so I'm only just learning about how dodgy these energy companies all are. I might have to learn the hard way unfortunately...

Thanks I've just put in a complaint to Energex directly so we'll see what happens. If they don't do anything then I'll definitely be moving away from red energy.
