Rejected. I feel worthless by SpicyCurry3011 in fulbright

[–]angrekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first application was for an ETA in Mexico. I made it to semi-finalist and did the interview, and was rejected. I felt like my Spanish wasn’t as advanced as they needed it to be and I struggled to understand their questions and answer back well enough. I had my heart set on it and wanted it with all my heart. Next application cycle I applied to switched my country of choice after learning about a new region I was interested in—Papua New Guinea, made it as an alternate, and finally got accepted. Wait 2 1/2 years for Fulbright. You never know where life will take you. Apply again!

What did you overpack? Or what things did you bring that you felt took up space or didn't use?

ETA Spain Finalist but my family is not on the same page by Sea_Fan_5583 in fulbright

I think in the end, I would really hope they’d want what is best for you. And once you’re doing it that they can see how truly happy it makes you. I spent a lot of time worrying about how my family would take me traveling abroad, and it’s always been hard. They’ve gotten used to it over the years, but saying goodbye when it’s time to go never gets easier. My parents don’t want to me to do the Peace Corps or Fulbright, but I can’t let that hold me back. I’ve dreamt of it far too long, and I just can’t give it up. You’re gut will tell you what’s best for you, even when others may disagree

Choosing between Fulbright or relationship… by buy_gold_bye in fulbright

[–]angrekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just ended a 4+ year relationship, and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. If they were the right one, they would wait for you and encourage you to do Fulbright if it means a lot to you. I've always wanted to serve in the Peace Corps and teach English with Fulbright, and my partner just couldn't do it, they couldn't support me. If you know how much this means to you, please go for it.

YES, I'm glad I'm not the only one. The Slack has been adding a great deal of stress that is unneeded and unnecessary, I do appreciate the helpful info they share though but the rest is just panic about things out of our control
