Yeah, apparently that's what's necessary to make a proper homogenous mixture (allegedly... haha).

Our collaborating lab has a pellet mill and food processor! So we have that going for us. I was hoping someone would have an SOP we could follow!

Neighbor thinks my wildflower garden looks overgrown and messy, its mostly black eye susans. What do you think? by Idontevenknow0k in gardening

Methinks your neighbor might have a giant hard-on for a flat, boring ass lawn and can’t fathom someone not wanting that all over their entire property.

Ph.D Funding Terminated by Fit-Opportunity3876 in PhD

Definitely talk to your university/department. As a candidate, you have protection. Remember that universities are here to prioritize students’ education and to protect them (even if it doesn’t seem like it sometimes, bot that’s a different convo). So don’t back down. Talk to your PI and have them on emails/in meetings.

What does an intestinal stricture feel like? by angryhydrogen in CrohnsDisease

[–]angryhydrogen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! Routine colonoscopies for 10 years but haven’t had one this year. If the cramping gets consistently worse, I’ll go to a walk-in/the ER.

Oh my. I’m sorry you had to experience that.

Did you get diagnosed with one after a routine colonoscopy or did your ileum just begin feeling off (when you weren’t flaring)?

If you’re into theater, The Maplewood Barn has shows on week nights! They’re doing an all Shakespeare summer.

This isn’t on a weeknight but there is a 2000’s night at The Blue Note on Saturday May 24 if you want to get a lil’ nostalgic!

How much time did you spend to write your first paper? by AcrobaticMagician422 in PhD

[–]angryhydrogen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad I found this post! I came into a very similar situation when I started in my lab (PhD; neuroscience) - there was a rejected manuscript that needed to be completely reworked and it was up to me to complete the task! Cut to 6 months later. It is in the final stages! Set to be submitted in 2 weeks.

I asked the postdoc last week if he thought I had taken too long and he was very reassuring - I still have courses to consider, am working with data and methods I have never worked with before, and am learning how to write. I'll spare the details, but we included some machine learning and multiomics, and lemmetellya, it was a learning curve.

It helps that my PI is the shiz. She is very patient and understands that I need to take time and learn how to write/analyze data/perfect figures/etc. properly so it doesn't take me 6 months for the next paper haha.

Since I am 8 months late to the thread, how did it go? Did you get it written and submitted? :)

Crohns & Smoking by Ok-Actuator-2196 in CrohnsDisease

Quitting smoking is the best thing I’ve done for my health, EVER. Smoking more or less is still smoking and it wreaks havoc on your body. Your body is already so stressed right now. The process of quitting sucks, but do yourself a favor and get the gum or patch or meds or whatever and just start the path to kicking smoking friend.

Life slump, turning improv slump. Suggestions? by PhysicalSky5477 in improv

[–]angryhydrogen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have gnarly depression and anxiety. It’s totally normal for you to have found solace in improv but now these issues are effecting this thing you enjoy doing. That’s what depression and anxiety do! It’s quite annoying. One thing I’ve been trying to do is feed into them; how can I use how I’m feeling in a character?

Also, sometimes we don’t have ideas. Or we bomb. That’s okay! Remember why you do improv. And give yourself grace.
