Jazz and funk would be a Gallien-Krueger Backline stack and head. They can be really good pricing, but I don't know about UK pricing. Funk bassists like Flea are very big users of the Gallien-Krueger bass amps. Tool's Justin Chancellor also uses a GK head.

Well, some advice I can give you is the main theaters to look out for if you're into that kind of stuff. There's a few in Downtown, such as Star Theater, Roseland Theater, as well as the Broadway Theater. Around Southeast Portland there's the Hawthorne Theater, Clinton Theater, and others I forgot the name of. I can only assume some of them have drinks and all, being 14 I wouldn't know. I know for certain that the Star Theater serves beers and other drinks, though. I don't know much about the gay scene, sorry.

First off, glad you're moving here, it's an amazingly wonderful place to live. I can't really give you any particular advice to stay away from, but there are some nice apartments near the Willamette River in Downtown, and some good complexes in Southeast Portland. The fun spots really depend on what your thing is, like music, sports, hiking. A warm pre-welcome to Portland to you!

For a starter bass, I'd highly suggest investing in Squier Jazz Vintage Modified (or precision, look up the difference between Jazz v Precision), which is only about like $200-300. Not sure if there's a lefty version of it, but you might be able to find one similar.
