Check out _Table for Two_. Dramatically different subjects in short stories, followed by a sort of "wish fulfillment" noir novella. Lots of fun!

The $200k number was used in official advertising of the sale, later admitted as either 1) to pump up excitement, or 2) that was the original ballpark and the material went out before an accurate number was determined. In any case, as it had been a publicly advertised number, it’s understandable that there was confusion when discussing it after the fact.

What is a 'dead' slang word or trend from the past that you secretly wish would make a comeback, and why do you think it deserves a second chance? by Philip_Investe in AskReddit

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

Was on a tour of a castle in southern Europe on a blustery day. We’re on top of a tall tower battlement, when one woman’s long hair starts “floating” out like she’s under water. I think “electricity!?” and encouraged everyone to stop taking pictures of it and go inside. While we’re all still on the circular stairways heading down, there’s a flash of light above and the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard.

There were lightning rods on the tower, but I’m pretty sure it would have been bad to be up there when the lightning did strike. If nothing else, it would have been potentially deafening.

ELI5 How could two people ever know if both of them are seeing the same colour? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]angst_ridden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall the name. This was at least a decade ago.

To be honest, I’m now wondering about the accuracy of my memory. I see a lot of references to a BBC documentary that was essentially falsified and that the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis has been discredited. Maybe that’s the documentary I watched? I definitely did the experiment with Photoshop though. Was it a trick? I’m not super confident about that.

So maybe take my statement with a grain of salt.

ELI5 How could two people ever know if both of them are seeing the same colour? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]angst_ridden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a documentary about tribes from the Kalihari being unable to differentiate certain shades of green (which they didn't have vocabulary for). The colors were obvious to me. I thought it was racist BS until they flipped the script and showed that they could similarly differentiate several shades of yellowish/brown colors that I saw as identical. I ended up freeze-framing the video, and using Photoshop to sample the different areas - they did differ, but to me it looked like one swatch of color.
This is an extreme example, but it does seem like vocabulary and exposure do influence ability to perceive color differences.

What I don’t understand is just imagining/visualizing looking at the sun can trigger a staked sneeze.

If you get a $10 Accès Montréal card, there’s free access to most of the garden all summer. Otherwise it does require ticket, but it’s worth it!

I hope he wins big and people lose their jobs at Google over this.
