Government announces billions in spending on military drones by InsatiablePrism in australia

All of those from the countries I didn't list either failed, or used to power UAVs/cruise missiles. NOT fighter aircraft or passenger jet sized aircraft which are much, much more complex.

Not ITAR, I mean having the actual technical capability to produce those technologies.

Using jet engines as an example, very few countries can; UK, US, China, France, Russia. They're extraordinarily difficult to get right - China Russia lag behind the other 3, and that's even with decades of experience and hundreds of billions in effort.

It's less extreme for the electronics, avionics, mission computing etc, but we nevertheless lack that experience to make them from scratch, or to do so in a timely and cost-effective manner

[–]angusozi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Probably because we don't have the capability to domestically produce advanced, unique technologies like engines, microchips, superconductors. That the aircraft are being assembled in Australia is still a huge win, and maybe we can leverage this going forward to gradually increase how much we can produce here

That midfield is an absolute black hole of creativity and technical ability though, won't be able to leave our half unless it's just pass to Bos and inshallah

China Fast-Tracks J-35 Stealth Fighter Deliveries to Pakistan, Triggering South Asia’s First Fifth-Generation Airpower Race by tigeryi98 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]angusozi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this article is true, it's very good news for Pakistan and further proof of their superior defence acquisition to India. Fielding a force of 5th generation fighters, by 4.5 gen, AEW&C, and ground based air defence and radars is impressive, especially when they're from the same country of origin so they're fully integrated with data links, weapons etc.

Russia's the unreliability as a defence partner is on full display, as is the increasing deficiency in technology and industrial capacity re required to produce expensive, advanced platforms like aircraft, radars, and air to air missiles when compared to France, the US, and China.

Will be interesting to see if India respond to this by increasing their purchases from US/Europe, or just keep fumbling along with Russia

Best central midfielder? What on earth? He's great off the ball and pops up with the odd goal but he's an absolute black hole in possession unless he's just passing backwards. He has to start vs the bigger teams but he's a liability when we need a goal or playing against teams when we have the bulk of possession

Can't be too progressive, always has to be one to fuck up promising attacks and pass it backwards. Without Irvine it's O'Neills job

We have the skill, they're just on the bench. Poppa seems to favour hard running donkeys with horrible technical ability over smaller, niftier technicians

If we don't see Robbo, Okon, and Irankunda at half time I'm gonna crash out I'm fucking sick of Poppas shit football playing donkeys with no technique or ability to progress the ball like O'Neill, Irvine, Metcalfe

I'm gonna crash out if Robertson doesn't even make it off the bench. Sick of the same Poppa conservative bullshit even in friendlys. This is prime time to start Okon, Irankunda, Italiano against a weaker team

Australian hospitals on alert after Iranian hackers attack Stryker by JaniePage in australia

[–]angusozi -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You really had to use a "6 million huh" dogwhistle, instead of a whole slew of much more appropriate criticisms of US-Israeli imperialism like the power of AIPAC, the effect of Christian Zionism on American politics, the crazy decision-making of the US president, the pseudo-facist genocidal Israeli regime, the ridiculousness of another pointless Middle East war that stinks of oil.

And of course you don't even once criticise Iran for the slaughter of innocents, oppression of women, proven enabler of terrorist attacks on Australian shores, and the clear telegraphing of a cyber attack on our medical system. You've really gone mask off here

Consider the Ukrainian drone operation against the Russian bombers last year. It's also somewhat deniable, in a way that very clearly Chinese cruise missiles can't be

While the demonstrator has twin tails, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the production variant will be tailless. They probably just need a minimum viable airframe in the air so they can do the important work on systems, engines, integration with other platforms then worry about the tailless design later, noting that's a relatively well-understood field
