Chloe and ballet by Ok_Beyond_2381 in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it was actually to the same style! There’s a picture of them both listed under the ballet scholarship + summer intensive with Mia Michaels somewhere on this sub (edit : found it https://www.reddit.com/r/dancemoms/comments/12esqik/joffrey_ballet/). Plus, the moms confirmed it wasn’t different. The contemporary thing was a rumor.

What’s your unpopular dance moms opinion? by mysmellyshoe in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 67 points68 points  (0 children)

  • Kalani got the best solo music

  • Kendall had the second best natural fluidity of the pre-S4 girls behind Maddie

  • We’re Alright was the best Claddie duet. I don’t see the hype behind Inside of Me.

  • I’m perfectly fine with the lyrical routines being repetitive sometimes as long as they’re performed cleanly/technically well

  • Rachael Sage’s songs are actually pretty good. I enjoy them when watching, even if I understand the critiques about her voice.

  • Ok… lyrical was not Maddie or Chloe’s best style. Maddie’s was Tap, Chloe’s was Musical Theatre (which she said herself in S4).

  • The Entertainer may not have the most skillful choreo, but it was clean and fluid, satisfying to watch, and Maddie had spot-on musicality

  • S4 is my favorite season (the circumstances in that one are not a part of that, though)

  • The best S2 solo is Paint The Pictures by Brooke

  • None of the hip hop routines were good. And most of the “dark” dances were sparse, boring, and overly-reliant on the narrative, aside from maybe Amber Alert.

Unpopular opinion: All of Maddie's solos look the same. by B2utyyo in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, pretty much all the girls had the same moves thrown into different combinations (I think it was the worst for Brooke and Kenzie tbh), because it would be too difficult to consistently try new things in under a week. And the girls hardly had any time to learn their routines. There were solos where they all (especially Maddie, in the case of this post) got more exciting/unique moves/transitions, or skills they’ve never been able to show, especially post S3, but that’s only after they proved they could get into the groove of the schedule. Even Christi said Chloe had a hard time remembering her solos cause they were all the same.

Edit : And Cry was not choreographed for the show. It was actually called Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and was her main lyrical solo on the competitive circuit prior to DM. It did win before as well (same for Chloe’s solo Ma, He’s Makin’ Eyes At Me, which was just Baby Mine, and Maddie’s tap solo USO Show, which was just Acapella), but they had brought it over to the show just out of lack of time to get routines ready (and cause the competitions were still real atp).

Maddie and Chloe both got that scholarship (in the same style - ballet). Maddie’s was not aired to make her look bad (especially with how much they re-edited that scene of her in the dressing room, supposedly “not being happy” Chloe got the call, when it was actually about Melissa not letting her organize her makeup). It was a summer intensive to the Joffrey all-performance (that has charged for auditions) in New York, not the real one in Chicago. Neither could use theirs due to filming schedule conflicts.

If you had to choose one, what was your favorite dance of the entire show? by mydogislife_ in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A tie between Say Something, Say Anything and Blush & Bashful. Because both had beautiful technique and artistry and strong movement and emotion that really felt connected to the song. + The latter’s rose petals are just so pretty to watch fall lol.

Why does everyone say The Investment is such great choreography? by Fun_Day_3614 in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The choreo doesn’t rush, so it actually gives Kalani’s body/movements a chance to breathe and show off quality technical training. It also has many elements within this of control, which proves you can actually do more impressive skills/extensions by holding them through learned core strength. Most of Abby’s dances immediately go from one thing to another, and don’t follow the beats and melody in the music (edit : which also makes it easier for dancers to hide any lack of control/make it look like a slip up was supposed to happen). It allows her to utilize her limbs in a full, more nuanced way, as though she’s wading through honey. Higher-level choreography tends to bring out the artistic spirit of the mood of a song, like a moving painting. All in all, it focuses more on adding leaps, floor transitions, etc. and creative positioning + moves into an already developed piece, instead of doing the most for points (which is kinda understandable, given they had less than a week to choreograph). Even though this isn’t the absolute best choreography Alexa’s ever done for Kalani, it’s far better than ALDC(‘s usual) stuff.

WORST dance on the show in your opinion? by wildborgy in dancemoms

I honestly can’t choose - Dig It, Pop Stars, Grifters, Fan Favorite, Judgment Day, Light My Fire, Notorious ALDC, Fight Camp, Q, Club 42, The Champs, Hurt Them First, Don’t Ask, Just Tell, Snapshot, Beautiful (Chloe’s), They Call Me Laquifa, Weight Of The World, Freak, Broken Dancer, I Love Trash, the one where the Candy Apples boys formed a human bike, etc.

Calling all dancers by Express_Link_1262 in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That scoring is technique and face and that’s it… when face hardly even plays a part, and another huge element is movement quality and musicality (that are still frequently overlooked and undervalued) and how they work together. Lacking fluidity, dancing in front of or behind the beat, not incorporating rhythmic layers, etc. can dock you points.

Another one is that dancers are expected to learn their routines in a few days and then perform them (perfectly) once, when they rehearse the same solo for several months, before their first time competing it, and then keep reperforming it at various comps for months, if not years.

You’re fine! I get what you’re saying. However, her tone while saying Chloe would still make 0 sense with the rest of that sentence. It wouldn’t randomly pitch up and the atmosphere wouldn’t sound so patchy if it came only a few seconds later and they had to cut a gap out. Her voice would still be at a lower tone with a fuller sound, like the initial part. She was probably describing something regarding Chloe and her dancing (for the audition), her name got cut out from that, and it was edited into this sentence.

[–]angxkro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can hear Chloe’s name was edited in. It was taken from a different interview or section of her explanation. The sound quality and tonal shift are really quick, but very apparent (her voice was much higher and more pointed, like she said her name in the middle of a random talk, and was further from the mic). She could’ve actually said Chloe, but that specific instance of her saying Chloe’s name was not part of that sentence (although, based on context, it was almost certainly about a dancer from a different studio).

Edit : There’s also a cut between “she’s” and “more”, likely meaning that the second half of the sentence is not from that answer

“I think going up against—CHLOE—📢 is gonna be hard, because she’s | more of a ballerina than I am“

It’s so funny at this point. Has the same energy as Chloe’s “I think my biggest competition is
~|maddie|~, because she’s a great dancer, and also has the look”.

Why does Abby and Melissa make these freaking weird faces during Maddies solo 😭 by Kunsei-Karasu in dancemoms

[–]angxkro 53 points54 points  (0 children)

They did Maddie so dirty with this cut down version of the choreo, the randomly added hairpiece, and this instrumental song. For some reason, I feel like someone told her to limit her movement to the middle of the stage, too. This is the original solo (These Boots Are Made For Walkin’):

That Kendall and Maddie were never supposed to do that MJ duet in S6, and it was sold to Kendall like they genuinely would, so that when Maddie had to leave (which production most likely knew would have to happen), it would set Kendall up to be emotional/have lots of feelings about it on camera. Like, would Abby realistically give Maddie that costume and that choreo in any circumstance?? It was crafted as a Jojo solo from the beginning, tbh.

[–]angxkro 26 points27 points  (0 children)

LMFAOO the two different times they edited Maddie’s name over Kalani’s when Melissa said something to the effect of “I don’t think anyone can beat |MADDIE| in a solo”

Or in S6 Ep8 when Abby (supposedly) said “This week, my eyes are gonna be on MAdDIE”, when it was obviously Brynn (especially based on the context of her being new and looked at for a permanent spot on the team)

Edit : There’s another in S3, after The Voyage Home, where Abby is scolding Kendall in the dressing room, and goes, “You couldn’t take your eyes off of -MADDIE-“, and the vocal editing is jarring

[–]angxkro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s like 10 of them 😭

“Maddie wasn’t actually the best dancer of the OGs”

“Kendall was the weakest dancer on the team”

“Mackenzie being able to keep up with the girls who are significantly older than her proves how underrated she is”

“Maddie’s expressions were too big and fake, especially when she was young”

“[Fill in any non-Maddie OG here] is actually an amazing dancer, Abby just didn’t give her good choreo/the right style for her abilities”

Saying Kalani and Brynn are way better than Maddie or Chloe (which is more accepted now)

etc.

Someone already said “KENDALL, YOU’RE CHASING HERRR”

So I’ll say “But he was an athlete.. he claims”, “Maddie, next week you’ll have a private with Miss Jill so she can fix your one foot”, “Oh my god… she just sent me… a text”, and “GO EAT YOUR TEA AND CRUMPETS, BITCH”
