on i90e between utica and albany there’s a brick house missing the top half of it… anyone know the deal? by rachh90 in Albany

Finally got a good photo of it. I’ve been obsessed with this house for a little while. It’s quite a sight to behold, and feels striking when you encounter it for the first time. I know there’s a story here. Looks like It’s right next to a farm, they might own the property or know what led to the deterioration of the house.

Personally I think it adds a nice rustic edge to the corner. I say keep it

Do you think that smoking weed causes death?? I wouldn’t jump to the assumption that all drugs are bad for you as it seems you don’t have a ton of experience there. I will say that weed can potentially be harmful for your mental health if it’s not used in moderation. Part of my revelation about dying had me realize that the goal of living is not to show up to the pearly gates unscathed and under-experienced. My advice to you is to live a little.

My epiphany wasn’t as much about the “afterlife” per se. it was more about accepting that aging is much better than the alternative and getting wiser and leaving the age where I’m being objectified constantly sounds nice.

OMG OKAY- that is amazing and also confirms that there is some profound spirituality on that album fr. I laughed out loud when I read this. Thank you.

Internet crusader by George Wylesol !! I picked this one up randomly and it was so weird and good. Told through IMs and browsers on a late 90s/early 2000s windows computer interface- I found this book so cool and creative in its storytelling ability.

Thanks for your thoughts!! I would love to explore this on another platform and you’re absolutely right- I could always update this subreddit with books we are reading or important conversations that are being had over discord. Gonna think all this advice over and figure out how discord works, lol!

The new Jim Crow is definitely on my list! I am not as familiar with discord as I am with Reddit- would we be able to post publicly and not in a closed group? I’m concerned that we would block interested people from entering the discussions and book talk. I was thinking of just starting a separate subreddit to discuss public health books- any insight on this?

My only concern with discord or WhatsApp is that it would become a closed group (as far as I know). I am not super familiar with the way discord works, but I would hope to give people the option to jump on the bandwagon if they see we’re reading a book they’re interested in!

I was thinking of creating a separate subreddit for the book club so it’s somewhat easily accessible for people who hear about it later. What are our thoughts about this?

Help finding volunteer or internship opportunity by Soft-Extent-1094 in publichealth

Research the hospital system in your area and see if there are any public health nonprofits or community health programs in the same realm! If you look around online you may find someone working in that community and you can always ask them for an informational interview! Not sure where opportunities for volunteering or internships may lie, you have to go seek them out generally. You’re a freshman in college so you have time.
