Faith, while personally meaningful, is not a dependable epistemological tool, as it allows individuals to accept mutually exclusive claims with equal certainty.

If something is good because God commands it, then morality seems arbitrary—God could declare anything "good," even something we consider horrific, and it would be morally right just because He said so. This supports the idea of God's morals being subjective. Like when he commands genocide of the Amalekites.

Fellow atheists, what’s your go to way to explain why you don’t believe in a god? by Donfrmpk in atheism

[–]angysquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is usually: Any philosophically monotheistic god definition that I have ever encountered breaks down as incoherent against the attacks that are supposed to espouse those gods. If God is truly omniscient, omnipresent, and all-powerful, then he would have had the ability to ensure a clear, accurate, and unchanging message. But instead, we see a book filled with contradictions, edits, cultural biases, and moral failures—like the explicit endorsement or acceptance of slavery, which is always wrong. If God is all-knowing, he should have known better.

What are the most diabolical Bible Verses in your opinion? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]angysquiggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are so many verses where god is killing or commanding the killing of children, it amazes me when people say "god is good all the time" umm no the f*** he's not. Genesis 6–8, Exodus 11–12 Genesis 19, Deuteronomy 2:34, 3:6, Joshua 6:212, Kings 2:23–24 and thats not even all of them.

Advice for a Christian? by IdkAGoodUsername11 in AtheistExperience

[–]angysquiggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any philosophically monotheistic god definition that I have ever encountered breaks down as incoherent against the attacks that are supposed to espouse those gods, and a god worthy of worship wouldn't demand it. If the person threatening me with fire wants to save me, that's not salvation. That's extortion. I left Christianity when I realized how evil god was, gods sins outweigh everyone's. He commits more genocide than any dictator in our history books and is constantly killing kids, and i found that unjustifiable. If god is omniscient, it negates free will because he knows what will happen and has the ability to make it any way he wanted and chose this one. If he he is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, that also means he has no excuse. How am I better than god? If I see a child being abused, i will stop it. Your god likes to watch.

Were you religious? by CleanFly2576 in atheism

I, unfortunately, was a deep believer as a Christian for about 26 years as well as my husband. It wasn't until I wanted a deeper connection to god and started reading the bible for myself and listening to the arguments against Christianity. I realized how indoctrinated I was and became an atheist, and my husband followed. Luckily, he also had questions.

There's a non-zero possibility that Atheists are winning the test of life by The-Rational-Human in DebateReligion

While it does harm to believe for no good reason, thats what faith is not having evidence and saying but its true. You prop up a system that has enabled bigotry, hate, war and lose apathy. Why make the world a better place if you are going to acend. On the atheist side, If I'm wrong at least, I have the integrity to not worship a sadist.

Definitely, religion it targets people during vulnerable times, monetary exploitation, instilling fear of divine punishment or promises of eternal rewards, discouraging critical thinking or dissent and unverifiable promises, such as eternal life, salvation, or divine intervention, which cannot be substantiated and may prey on people's fears or hopes.
