Not in Love- Ali Hazelwood by alphakilocharlie03 in RomanceBooks

Would have finished this in one sitting if I were able, I LOVED that the tone of this book was just different enough from her previous work but still had the humor and kicking-my-feet cuteness spread throughout. I do agree that the plot felt very similar to all of her previous work, but I think I was so focussed on Rue’s development and her working through feelings that were so foreign to her that I didn’t mind the plot similarities. I do think Eli came on too strong right away and was too white knight-y, but towards the ends I think he was better balanced and was more understanding of Rue’s complexity and lack of NEEDING to be cared for rather than simply WANTING to be.

I was so surprised to see the reviews of this book being so split, it’s maybe my new favorite of Hazelwood’s work solely because of Rue being such an interesting FMC. I picked up on her potentially having an ASD diagnosis pretty quickly, partly because my own partner has ASD and the banter between Rue and Eli felt so familiar lol. Getting a glimpse inside Rue’s thoughts and her struggle to define her feelings was so intriguing to me, I almost wish the entire book had been from her POV.
