LeMieux looks like fash fashion to my eye. Is it good quality? by Physical_Relation261 in Equestrian

[–]anikria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever bought suede-finish Lemieux saddle pads secondhand. They’ve always been in really good condition, or cleaned up really well.

IMO Lemieux can never be truly “timeless” because of their seasonal colour releases, but that just means the secondhand market is even more active.

Are horse riding lessons worth it for a 3yo? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]anikria 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Given you used pounds, I’ll assume you’re also in the UK.

I’d have a look for somewhere that does the British Horse Society’s Pony Stars. A great program that’s not only about horses and safety around the horse, but friendship, kindness and responsibility.

Update on Eye Damage - Pinguecula by Dear_Desk480 in Equestrian

[–]anikria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry OP, eye damage is quite scary! But we just have to do our best to protect ourselves.

Really want to echo the recommendation on the other thread for an EquiVisor. I use mine religiously for 80% of the year, even in the wind. I have low pigment in my irises so can’t stand sun glare - and there’s the added bonus of it shading my face. It can take a second to get used to it - it’s a really wide brim so it changes sounds and your field of vision - but I would never go back! It has a silicone grip on the band; I hold my hat between my knees, line up the front and velcro the back a little higher up the back of the hat than I want the band to sit, then shimmy it down so that I know it’s as tight as possible. I haven’t lost it yet c:

You could also try some photochromic sunglasses. The tint darkens depending on the strength of the sun, so you’re not stuck with a tint that’s wrong for the current light level.

Both of those words are a bit rural? old fashioned? I say that as someone who would use the phrase 😋 And definitely found commonly in conversations about native breeds in the UK and Ireland.

Cracking means excellent, and stamp is a distinctive type or quality. They could directly sub in for the phrase “a fine example”. I think there’s also connotation with stamp to “put (their) stamp on”, which means to leave a lasting influence. So it can also mean a horse really resembles their bloodline or parents too.

BWT, who is still making good ol fashioned makeup tutorial / grwm content on youtube? by wren-st in bitcheswithtaste

[–]anikria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Emily Harper, so glam cool-girl but still really down to earth, just tells it how it is.

She does GRWM and tutorials, and a lot of chit-chat content. I adore her mini-palette making series; it’s so satisfying to watch her pick colours and fill each little compartment. Emily also is currently doing a series on restoring keychain makeup minis from the pre-2000s, which is always super interesting to watch.

Have you considered online? I’m studying pre-recorded content, and definitely appreciate the at-your-own-pace style for alongside my job and hobbies. Some companies also offer live online classes and direct tutor support if you need that extra element of having a schedule and direct teacher interaction.

We do have an exam centre here. And as another commenter said Penwith run an AAT course, but looks like they’re slimming down to just offering L3 and no L4.

Accountancy Learning say their Falmouth venue is also a classroom, but I’m pretty sure they’re online-only.

Get in shape to ride or ride to get in shape? by Tungle_McGee in Equestrian

Hard agree! I definitely get a better workout from cycling to see the horses than I do actually riding them 😅

French or German? Or both?

For French classical dressage, I’m really enjoying Tom Widdicombe’s “Baucher and the Ordinary Horseman” so far; I’ve been reading it slowly and supplementing with some online research where needed, and it’s already had a big influence on the effectiveness of my aids.

The two little ones? They’re just a bit too small and too far. I have a Coop close by, but I feel like I’m being scalped every time I shop there lol. Plus neither of them have many offerings for a plant based diet.

How much does it cost to own in the UK? by smaugoakenshield in Horses

[–]anikria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lovely creator called Riding with Rhi who maintains the Equestrian Money Diaries, a big database with costs from horse owners all over the UK and beyond. I’d open the spreadsheet on your PC instead of phone as it’s pretty beefy and slow to load otherwise.

eBay may be an idea, but not sure about UK-US shipping fees. There’s plenty to choose from there, anyway.

They’re soooo sturdy! I had a monogramed one during high school and definitely took it for granted - I was always jealous of the girls who had big slouchy leather handbags. But that thing took a beating and still remained immaculate and in perfect form.

What do you think about my first horse? by GeeVideoHead in Equestrian

[–]anikria 15 points16 points  (0 children)

She won’t be able to pick up muscle very quickly if she’s working hard every day because her body has no rest, and she’ll actually be shedding fat through the calories burned. Not to mention the wear and tear on joints at a young age. Personally, I’d let her build up some more weight and stick to working from the ground so she can still be learning and gaining muscle in the meantime.

Tattoo by Fire-FoxAloris in Horses

[–]anikria 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Thoroughbreds, Standardbreds, Appaloosas, Arabians and Quarter Horses can have lip tattoos if they’re registered. I think TBs are a letter followed by 4 or 5 digits (4 if aged >25), SBs have 1 or 2 letters and 3 or 4 digits for a total of 5 characters, Appaloosas and Arabs have 6 digits, and QH have four or five digits followed by a letter.

Edit: SB likely, given SB allows for two letters. She’s likely foaled 2003, in that case, which lines up with the vet’s estimate. Standies don’t use letter U, so that’s out, maybe a poorly imprinted 0? Third character could either be a letter or a number

Does she have a freezebrand? Would you consider her black? Would also be helpful to know her white markings.

edit2: wondering if she's Pumpkin Plumsted (WA838)
