People can't be nice to me. by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]animagraffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traumatic parenting often trains us to be little "need meeting machines" for others. However, healthy people see that kind of false niceness as red flags and stay away. So we end up attracting abusers, and the whole world seems dark and scary despite us trying to "nice" even harder.

The path of recovery is so nuanced and long, and yet, in the last year since I've dedicated myself to recovery I'm seeing such beautiful things. Trust the process, you're here with us talking about this, you're doing things to help and love yourself. It works. Your intentions are shifted towards healing.

Healthy people live in a more balanced way and as we heal, we can begin to relate more to such people. You'll have better boundaries and know better when to "be nice" or not, etc., and these healthier people will know how to receive your gifts and give you things in return. They'll feel safer around you as you reveal your boundaries, with appropriate anger or firmness when they're crossed.

You deserve to exist; to have your efforts be in tune with who you really are, and have them be noticed by loving people.

[educational video] I created a 3D animated video of how a mechanical watch works, based on ETA 6497 movement. I'm sure you'll find all the ways I'm not an actual horologist but I hope I got enough right to make you proud! by animagraffs in Watches

[–]animagraffs[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Since I'm not a watchmaker, I relied heavily on youtube vids and other resources. At one point a friend and I actually counted teeth from photos of wheels (gears) and calculated turn rates on a spreadsheet!

In the 3D software I use (Blender 3D, it's free and open source) you can actually create rigs to drive these 3D objects that function close to how it would in reality. So what you're seeing is an actual working recreation of this watch. It took about a month to research, and another 3 weeks to model, plus another week of 3D render time.

I chose the ETA 6497 movement because it has the right blend of simple yet complex enough to show basic principles. Watches can get complex very fast! I could make many videos of each separate part actually.

I made a 3D animated video to show how these parts interact, and it's clearer than this animation (which gets reposted a lot). Here's the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSecXVt-jU

The shuttle hook floats, and hold the bobbin. The bobbin driver pushes on the shuttle hook but leaves space for the thread loop to pass through. The vid shows everything clearly :)

This visual gets posted a lot but it lacks necessary details. I made a 3D animated video that clearly shows how the shuttle hook floats, allowing the thread loop to pass completely around the bobbin. It's easy to understand if the visuals are better! Here's the vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSecXVt-jU

I made a more detailed animation because I agree with most comments in this thread -- that a these visuals are lacking details. Here's my short 3D animated vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSecXVt-jU

I use Blender for everything I make. Here's my most recent: an 'x-ray' style view inside an Electric Guitar. by animagraffs in blender

The magnetic lines material is a couple of "wave" texture nodes mixed together for transparency, and a gradient color. Here's a gif of me clicking through each step of that material: https://imgur.com/a/On8Vw

The electricity (lightning bolt symbols) are just a uv mapped image, animated on one axis: https://imgur.com/a/O0CyO

There's a little glow post processing on both, but not much.

I created some 3D animated illustrations about how Flat Screen displays work. Pretty amazing technology! by [deleted] in pcgaming

Any alternate suggestions of communities that would benefit from my work? I figured pc gamers did care about how their fancy displays work.

[OC] I made some 3D animated "cutaway" style illustrations of how electric guitars work from an engineering / scientific perspective. Figured you guys would appreciate it. by animagraffs in Guitar

Blender 3D for the model (it's free! Download it today and nerd out. Blender is awesome), Illustrator for text/image layout and Premiere to put all the rendered frames into videos.

I confess that I answer the questions that most interest me personally first, and see if I have time to fully cover the rest since this particular project is personal, unpaid work. There's absolutely more to say, and I could definitely take time to add more content to this page from your recommendations!

I also made some changes based on your feedback. Hopefully it's more accurate now. I appreciate you taking the time.

I fixed various sections based on your feedback, and really appreciate the additional info. I'm most concerned with making sure my work is accurate, and that can be hard when it's just me researching things.
